I am often wrong when I try to predict football games (and generally wrong on everything, if you ask my Dutch *EX* wife), but rarely am I happier than now to have been wrong on something. Fully deserved win, the Dutch looked considerably better in the first 15-20 mins or so, but then the Czechs settled and executed their tactical plan to perfection. It may not have looked as elegant as what the Dutch were doing, but that's not to point. The point is that they kept a side that had scored 8 goals at the group stages from ever even hitting the target (zero shots on goal, including during the 55 minutes the Dutch played with 11), kept the star players quiet and totally dominated when they had the numerical advantages. All that with various players out and the latest on the injury list being their captain. Sadly the past is no guide to the future, Scotland certainly found that out (never previously had been beaten by Croatia).
The Czech captain injured himself in training so they now have a midfielder and defender out with no adequate cover. (Boril and Darida had played 90 minutes in each previous game). I am revising my prediction from 2-0 to 3-0 to Holland.
I now predict a clear victory for Denmark in the quarterfinals at the entirely pointless venue of Baku.
