2022 Tour de France

Post by Bend it like Repka »

I know I said it was the Vendee Globe, but maybe the Tour de France is the greatest race in the world.

Huge Brit interest - can G win again? Cav is back! Yates will be hunting some stage wins.

The French have many faults but they did give us the Tour.........

1 idiot spectator had just caused a huge crash that had half the peleton on the floor!

God people are dumb....

Yep, has always been standard behaviour for the crowds on the grand tours although the French do seem to have the edge when it comes to running in front of the riders

Although unexpected this early, won't matter to him. He was not fancying the GC so at some point would have deliberately lost a load of time that would then mean he could get into breaks without being chased down by the top teams.

Yeah fair point, I just wasn't expecting all of this on Day 1 :smiler:

Absolute carnage again today. I won't post 'spoilers' for those who watch the evening highlights but another game changing stage

I was out until 9 so watched late last night.

Absolutely brutal. Is there any non combat sport tougher than pro cycling?

Thought G was done, nothing like riding 140km at full pelt after having your shoulder popped back in.

Rodlic looked like he'd been savaged by a wild dog by the time he finished. The Caleb Ewan crash was horrible.

One of the riders involved in a crash got back on his bike and finished the stage with two broken arms.

Meanwhile football has Jack Grealish and Mo Salah.

Are we allowed to post about today's stage yet? Don't want to spoil it for anyone but it's awesome ...

I was trying to analyse why although I still follow football I can't get as worked up about it any more, and this is the answer.

When you see Thomas having his shoulder popped back in and riding 143km, or Rodlic looking like he been in an edition of saw and still finishing, I just can't tolerate the antics of many footballers. It is pathetic.

Gonna wait for the SWE/UKR game to finish before watching the highlights.

Can agree with Bendys 'hardness' comments though. 8 solid years of commuting in London certainly gives you some respect of the dangers of road riding/racing. While not travelling at 30mph avg for 5 hours - going over bonnets, hitting lemming pedestrians, cars left hooking you at the last minute and general WTFifness does make you realise the unavoidable accidents of a pro cyclist life is anything but fun.
