That is fab … I bet he is still buzzing! Off to the Isle of Man tomorrow where no doubt the TdF will be pushing the Euros off the back page.

As far as I'm concerned Sir Mark Cavendish and SPOTY are two things that should happen this year.

Re: 2021 Tour de France
The Tour passes reasonably close to where I live tomorrow so I'm hoping to go and spectate somewhere along the route. I'd like to try and get on one of the climbs but I don't know how easy it will be to access
The final climb is Col de la Colombiere which is tiring just driving up, let alone cycling

Re: 2021 Tour de France
you lucky bugger. I have to watch a mountain stage one year. They close the roads so people either drive up early or walk/cycle.
Much better watching on a hill than on the flat, you get to see things a lot more.

Re: 2021 Tour de France
In the end I’ve gone to la côté de Coppenex, a 3rd category climb before they hit the really big climbs. I’m about 300 yards from the top
It’s a great atmosphere, the publicity caravan just went through and I got lots of goodies thrown at me
It’s quite wet and rainy so I didn’t fancy hiking up one of the really big climbs, but this is a good spot

By the look of yesterday Pogacar was even on the climbs.Johnny Byrne's Boots wrote: ↑Sat Jul 03, 2021 11:28 am ^^^They're not whizzing past at 35mph for starters
I assume he will get the same treatment and suspicion from the French fans as Froome did?

Re: 2021 Tour de France
Yesterday gave us a demonstration of the fact that cycling is a team sport, especially if you are a sprinter.
The Quickstep leadout train was a so good Cav only had to pedal at top speed for about 10 seconds to take win number 33.
Merx's record was unthinkable a few weeks back, now it looks very probable.
The biggest test may be Cav having to cycle over Ventoux twice today within the time limit. A race within a race.

Re: 2021 Tour de France
It'll be great if Cavendish finally breaks Merckx's record on the Champs - what a way to finish a career!
I'm a bit disappointed with Geraint Thomas though: he really hasn't been at it since he won the Tour back in 2018 and I suspect that the fact that he keeps crashing when he's supposed to be the team leader and protected rider must be getting a bit old for the other riders in the team and their management. What's the point in turning yourself inside out for three weeks when the ****er you're working for can't stay rubber side down/

All set up for the race today … the missus has got her Manx flag hung up and is practicing Ellen Vannin … their national anthem.

Re: 2021 Tour de France
I've kind of re-engaged with this year's tour but only really because I'm a fan of Mark Cavendish. I'm desperately hoping he breaks the record today in Paris.
I was getting into this years TdF, then I realised the guy whose winning is a Russian (which must flag up some issues), the bloke who won the stage the other day has been raided by the police already and then I saw Alejandro 'Is this your bag sir?' Valverde storming up a Pyrenean climb at a barely believable 41-years old and i just thought hmm not sure anythings changed at all really

Shame Cav couldn't take the record but I'm sure 4 wins and a green jersey will do.

Not worth a new thread but congrats to the Kenny's, two of Britain's most epic cyclists

Re: 2021 Tour de France
Thread title change Bendy/Mods?
I've been busy with work and cricket early this week but today certainly heated up on the cobbles, at least it wasnt the wet carnage from a couple of years back.
Early lead for Van Aert but Pogacar nicely placed. Ineos have a few GC riders that could cause some surprises, would like to see Pidcock ruffle aome feathers after his off road success.
