Re: The weather
Winter heat wave, numbers show degrees above average. Apparently some areas of Germany and Poland have had well over a 20 degree swing in a week, bonkers.

Re: The weather
I saw an old, Chris Packham 'Winterwatch' programme the other night, about the winter of '62/'63...
It's known as 'The Big Freeze', I believe.
Fmob's, what a terrible event. Even the sea froze over..
The 3rd round of the FA Cup in January, only 3 out of 32 games were played..
The last 3rd round match wasn't played until the 11th of March..
It was very interesting. It's on iPlayer - search with '1963'.

Re: The weather
Am old enough to remember this blooming cold in East Ham. Mrs Nels who was growing up on Hampshire/Wiltshire borders recalls 6 foot snow drifts and a grandma being cut of for several weeks- lived on Salisbury Plain

Re: The weather
That's basically what finished off the canal network in Britain as a means of transportation. They froze over for so long that it became unviable as a means of transporting goods so road and rail really came into the fore for logistics.Samba wrote: ↑Fri Dec 31, 2021 4:25 pm I saw an old, Chris Packham 'Winterwatch' programme the other night, about the winter of '62/'63...

I was born the week before Xmas in 1962.........Heard so many stories about that winter........."we couldn't take you outside for weeks" etc, and when you see the footage of it, you can understand why.

Re: The weather
Capt Black, why did you defect to the Mysterons?
Think I can remember that winter, riding me tricycle on the pavement and the snow almost covering the wheels.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-59977193
Australia could start burning again, temperatures like that if they become more frequent are unliveable for humans, those without aircon stand little chance. Worrying.
"Australia has equalled its hottest day on record after a remote coastal town reported temperatures of 50.7C (123.26F).
The temperature in Onslow, Western Australia, on Thursday matched a record set in 1962 in South Australia.
Onslow and the surrounding areas could see records broken again with temperatures set to rise slightly on Friday.
It comes after Western Australia reported large bushfires last month."

Re: The weather
Was suppose to be gales here today and tomorrow - they never appeared - Sunday looks like it's going to be windy [ mid 50s-60s ] .

'Eunice' what a wussy name for a storm. Why not 'Atilla' or 'Dicksy' or something that inspires awe?daytimedave wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 8:34 pm batten down the hatches on friday !! storm Eunice on its way

Re: The weather
Absolutely dreading Friday according to the forecast. Already had two soakings this week where it's pissed down for the entire duration of my postal round. Add in the predicted high winds on Friday and it's not looking good.
