I can certainly assure you and testify that the last bit of your post is absolutely true.

Three Lions, purely because '96 was one of the best summers I ever had.

I always thought it should be this.Collison Theory wrote: ↑Mon Jul 05, 2021 7:33 pm I like the idea of doing a world cup song like that, but that's lame, you've got to have some passion in a football tournament song, they sound like they're slightly embarrassed to be doing it.
I think Sweet Caroline has to be a new official song for us though. Always hear it at lower league grounds up here. That sounded awesome at the end of the Germany game.

Jesus Christ I could do with a Vindaloo now.Ludeksgloves wrote: ↑Sun Jul 04, 2021 1:05 pm Seems to split the nation in two.
We all like Vindaloo though.
Re: World in motion or It’s coming home?
Apples and oranges. Three Lions is decent sing along pop tune, a bit plod along for me, but World In Motion is not just a great official England football song but also a dance genre classic written at the height of the rave scene. It's a mess lyrically, but somehow it works with the different sections in the song, it also has a brilliant video. I cant believe that Ian Broudie turned down the chance to have players sing on the track or appear in the video, apparently he said it's "for the fans", thats such a scouse first bull**** thing to do, at least Keith Allen and NO had the grace to include some of the team on the track and video.
World in Motion all day every day.
PS- I hate New Order order's moronic Manc moaning as a rule.

Merely imho, but I can't stand either of them. Don't mind a bit of New Order as a rule but World in Motion is, for me, a lowpoint from them. I've never liked anything The Lightning Seeds have ever done. Vindaloo pisses all over them both. Just imho, as I say.
My favourite football-themed tunes have always been PWEI's Touched by the Hand of Cicciolina, and Monster Bobby by Add N to (X).
Was Eat My Goal by Collapsed Lung any good? I can't decide. Sometimes I think it was a cracker, other times I think it's cringingly naff.
Agree with Doc in wishing Half Man Half Biscuit had attempted a proper football anthem.

I'd love Idles to do a football song, that would be great.
I'm still 100% on World In Motion being better than Three Lions, every England game from here to eternity is going to have people, not just Lad Bible types either anymore, saying "it's coming home" before, during and after the game, for inspiring that crime I can never warm to it.

Re: World in motion or It’s coming home?
This Time was the first single I bought and I'll forever love it for that.
World In Motion celebrated my first world cup experience in the pub. Unforgettable times for me.
Three Lions is for me a proper terrace anthem and I actually loved Baddiel and Skinner. They might be middle class and all that, but they knew their football. Fantasy Football was excellent and the comedic value for me was done brilliantly with an abundance of knowledge.
Vindaloo is again a fantastic football anthem and was probably the best to sing with a group of well oiled mates not giving a ****.
Of the two that are relevant to the thread I have to say 3 Lions.
Overall in the grand scheme I prefer Vindaloo.

Unrelated to football anthems, but I’ve
Aside from Three Lions, I’d agree with that - always had one of those voices that I couldn’t stand - annoyingly “regional” and flat - like the bloke from Beautiful South or (in all honesty) Sean Ryder - despite my youth being all about The Smiths and the Roses…last.caress wrote: ↑Tue Jul 06, 2021 1:22 pm I've never liked anything The Lightning Seeds have ever done
