You don't need a VPN, but I find it helps reduce the pop-ups.
It doesn't download anything, just annoying pop-ups.

I had same thing. create an account with Proton free VPN , connect to Netherlands and now its working

opens about 20 tabs of crap then shuts the original one with a 404 error message. tried 5 or 6 times and have given up...

Quite often find that the first SD link runs more smoothly on VIP than the HD ones do.
