Which England player from the past…..

Post by The_Dead_Ball » Sat Jul 10, 2021 8:50 pm

Which England player from the past would you start in tomorrow’s final and who would you drop for him which would strengthen the team and win the cup?

Am sure Moore would be a popular choice but any others?

Quite a lot of keepers would dislodge Pickford. Not sure how Beckham would fare in the modern game. Unfavourably most would think I'd say. I'd give him a chance on the right even though it might fail miserably. The best dead ball specialist and crosser of a ball is still a potent weapon though.

David Beckham would most likely be played in CM now I reckon, or as a Right Back.

Though not an England fan, Moore would be the obvious choice. The real Captain, Leader, Legend!
Drop Maguire.

Get rid of little arms-Roy Galloway in goal and put Banks or Shilton in there.

Shilton who got out jumped by an Argentine midget or Shilton who let a ropey German free kick fall over his head before saving no penalties?

Shilton was in his 40s by the time he played the Germans.

Jordan Pickford is the living embodiment of the fact that international football accommodates mediocrity a lot more easily than elite club football.

He's the one player in the team that represents a genuine downgrade if we took him at West Ham.

Hufton for Pickford, Moore for Stones, Rio for Maguire, Peters for Mount, Brooking for Saka, Hurst for Kane and Puddefoot for Sterling.

Oh and Bonds with Declan in the middle.

Walker and Shaw can stay for now.

Byrne for Kane. I assume parity in training, conditioning, diet and supplements etc, and given all that Budge would be the better player.

Wondered if Budgie would get a mention. Wish I’d seen him play.

A weird choice but I'd have Matt Le Tissier in the squad. Maybe the most talented English player I've seen but he was too much in his comfort zone at Southampton.

Seeing as I'm the fictional England manager I would have been in his ear telling him I'd build a team around him but he needed to give me 100% etc etc.

He'd be the player that people were expecting Grealish, Foden or Sancho to be prior to this tournament.
