If you think Southgate is pony who would you have as manager & why?

AND if you think Southgate should stay as manager what would be your reasoning to a doubter?

If you have to provide someone with reasons why a manager who took England to a World Cup semi final followed by a Euros final should be in the job, then there's probably no reasoning with them.

When you buy a house , you often have to get things to go in the house in stages the kitchen and bathrooms are often prioritised.
That's no different with football, it often takes a bit of time to get it how you want.
Gareth Southgate has done most of the work now, and it's only taken just over 4 years.
I think he just needs to put a bit of lipstick on the garden, and itll be about done

I'd stick with Gareth Southgate for a bit longer

The manager - of any side - should remain in place until it's clear that they can't take their team any further. I don't think that's the case yet with Southgate. Our major tournament trajectory under him has been: WC semi -Euro final. Clear progression under the most accomplished England manager since Alf Ramsey. And with a team that's young, aggressive, fast, sublimely talented and, for a change, wonderfully diverse (I don't mean race, I mean in terms of the variety of clubs from whence the team has been gathered; it's not just the usual suspects from the top four clubs).

No way should Southgate be replaced. Daft talk imho.

I dont think Southgate is a particularly great manager, and is way to conservative for my tastes, but given he has reached a semi final and a final and so he deserves another crack

The lack of viable alternatives also needs to be taken into consideration

I suspect your opinion would remain the same if England won the World Cup next year. It's all very odd given his record.

He manages the team (and expectation and the media et al) as well as any other in the game, of that there is no doubt.

His shortcoming, if he has one, may be that he's unable to inspire to the same degree as others.

Keith from Droitwich. Won £2.75 on a 3 team acca about 6 years ago. Played 6 times for the Kings Arms, before the 40 a day habit and morbid obesity put an end to his career. Though he's never taken us to a major final or semi final, clearly knows that foreign teams don't like it up em and that Gary Shaw was the greatest English forward ever,

If he can't get time off from the scrap metal yard though, I think we should stick with Southgate rather than muck about with unnecessary paperwork

Yeah, if you can't get your man best to stick with what you know, good shout though.

I was trying to work out how many Euros I could remember. then how many were won by a great footbaling side. I can remember Holland (1988?).

in recent years I have watched Denmark, Greece and Portugal win dour finals.

Just our luck to have our best tournament and end up playing the masters at getting through games. They did it against Spain in the semis and again yesterday.

A great first half, but Italy recovered.

I think we would have beaten a footballing side but didn't have enough to see off a team who were determined not to lose at any cost.

No embarrassment there. Croatia in the last WC and last night saw us beaten by teams with more experience not more skill.

We have to learn from this

Personally I see no reason why Southgate shouldn’t continue, equally I see no reason why some people shouldn’t be allowed to talk about who else could possibly take it to the next level. Quite why others are getting prickly about such talk feels like they are trying to suppress that freedom of thought.
