Re: VAR 21/22
How pathetic was it for our penalty today!? They did absolutely everything they possibly could to look for an excuse not to give it! After watching the incident 100 times they even went back to check to see if Antonio’s cross went off the pitch! It was like going through our 1st goal against Liverpool again when it felt like they were hell bent to make sure there was some excuse not to give it.
Even Bowen’s disallowed goal today. Would they even have bothered checking to see if there was a foul in the build up if a Man Utd, or Liverpool had scored that? I think we know the answer to that one!

Re: VAR 21/22
The foul against soucek that VAR searched so hard for was far softer than the one vs Dawson at Burnley that was dismissed out of hand in the same weekend as Man City got a winning penalty for a handball that wasnt a handball.

Re: VAR 21/22
I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong ,but in the cup game last month against Spurs VAR was not being used and there was no check on their second goal.
In the Spurs game yesterday against Chelsea it was used 3 times in Chelseas favour.

Re: VAR 21/22
Wouldn’t be surprised at that as they only expect the top clubs to reach that far and any smaller club without the ability to have the structure to be in a semi final.ageing hammer wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 1:57 pm I think I read somewhere that Var was only to be used in the semi finals and final?
Just had a look and yes you are correct ,big club bias again.

Re: VAR 21/22
It's an inconsistency, every competition has different rules for VAR usage!
But EFL Cup has the worst - suppose a Championship side did make the semis (if they made the quarter-final why couldn't it happen? Especially if they were drawn against another Championship side).
It's just sloppy decision making.
And with COVID fixture postponements, the semi-finals should have been made single leg.

Re: VAR 21/22
It's difficult to fully analyse as things like Dawson's should have been a penalty against Burnley don't count towards anything, and the ref missing the blatant handball at Crystal Palace despite being next to it counts as VAR giving us a penalty.S-H wrote: ↑Wed Jan 26, 2022 10:54 am Interesting thread on Twitter containing VAR stats..

Everton receive apology over Man City handball
Everton have received an apology from the head of the professional referees body Mike Riley after they were denied a penalty in the 1-0 defeat by Manchester City on Saturday.
The Toffees wrote to the Premier League to complain about the decision when Manchester City midfielder Rodri seemed to use his arm to control the ball.
Neither referee Paul Tierney nor video assistant referee Chris Kavanagh deemed it was worthy of a spot-kick despite complaints from fans and Everton boss Frank Lampard.
Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) boss Riley called both Lampard and Everton chairman Bill Kenwright on Monday to apologise for the incident, which could prove costly to the club's bid to stay in the Premier League.
Everton are 17th in the table, one place and one point above Burnley, who host Leicester in the Premier League on Tuesday (19:45 GMT).
Kavanagh will be the referee for that match.
"We've lost a point because of a professional who cannot do his job right. It is so incompetent to get it wrong," Lampard said following the game at Goodison Park.

Yes, you can.Johnny Byrne's Boots wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 1:00 pm
You can see the cuff of Dawson's sleeve below the ball. Not so with Rodri.
And you can also see both arms control the ball.
Ridiculous situation, even Dawson's.

Quite a bit, Dawson's overlapped his shoulder. This one overlaps his forearm!prophet:marginal wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 12:47 pm Mate, how much difference is there between that one and Dawson's at Leicester?
The safe area is supposed to be level with the bottom of the armpit.

I think the game's gone more than a bit mad, if we're talking about different parts of the same limb.Crossd_Hammrs wrote: ↑Tue Mar 01, 2022 3:06 pm Quite a bit, Dawson's overlapped his shoulder. This one overlaps his forearm!

Crazy situation to gauge, even from 25 different camera angles.
Will only lead to still more interludes, whilst the ref gets called to the side of the pitch (and told what to do anyway)
