Thanks. Obviously penalty.

I think the game on Sunday will be indicative of Zoumas time at West Ham - very physically strong and imposing defending spoilt by a big mistake or two every game.
If Moyes can coach the mistakes out of him, we will have a really good signing who will improve the team massively.

Once you get past the was it or wasn't it moments, the should he or shouldn't he have moment, this was a cracking game of football.

An absolute belter in which we genuinely competed for pretty much the full 90.

There's no contact, Ronaldo throws himself over when he sees Zouma coming.

Never a penalty and a blatant dive.

Ronaldo should have been booked.

I disagree with you.

There was no contact so no penalty, there has to be contact to bring the player down, Ronaldo went down with no contact and then put his leg into Zouma as he is falling.

You can't give a penalty for clumsiness or intent there HAS to be contact.

Zouma went in wrecklessly, and Ronaldo saw it coming and went down. I think it's a penalty.
If the player "went down", as you say, that is cheating.

And as that preceded contact between the two players, the correct decision in those circumstances is a free kick to West Ham and a caution to the player for simulation.

Both things are true. Zouma went in wrecklessly, and Ronaldo saw it coming and went down. I think it's a penalty.
How did you get to thinking that is a penalty given what you wrote before?

Surely if Ronaldo saw it coming he could jump over Zouma's leg?

I think Atkinson must have left his yellow card at home, Ronaldo should have been carded for simulation.

I'd all but forgotten how unlikeable Ronaldo is on the pitch, but it came flooding back with his cheating and histrionics.

IIRC Pogba also took a dive first half and made a series of borderline fouls, as did Fred. Were any cards shown?

Absolutely. Yes, obviously gutted at the outcome but we’ve come a long way under Moyes and we don’t just roll over and let the so called Big Clubs take the piss anymore. We have a great team spirit and long may it continue.

Our consistency of performance is undoubtedly better against the top sides - everyone knows they’ve been given a game - but the percentage of wins against them must be lower than a lot of our recent managers?

Lingard and Nobes :crylol: - feels good to have the old "only at West Ham" back. The Footballing Gods were playing with us again yesterday and having a good old chuckle at our expense.

No stress though, we still got tits, fanny and West Ham
Are the above two our new CF and DM? :crossed:

It was a goid game to watch, but I didn't see it as great progress on our part.
I feel we've definitely played better against top teams previously.

The stats , although can be misleading, are not great.
Possession WH 40% MU 60%
Shots on target WH 4 MU 10
Corners WH 2 MU 11

Good game for neutrals but I was a bit disappointed.
Would Antonio have made a difference to the game? I think he may of exposed Varane.

I reckon he would have buried the chance Bowen had in first half that De Gea saved with his legs

This is the litmus test of true progression IMO.

Of course we have beaten the top four in the past. However, often it has been all about scoring a goal and then soaking up an ungodly amount of pressure.

Going toe to toe with the Man U is progression 👍

I think Antonio would have given us more of an out. He'd have likely played in place of Vlasic who I felt struggled to make an impact on the game.

The reality is that whilst Man Utd certainly enjoyed the bulk of the territory, they were hardly battering down the door. They had chances, as did we.

Why is Noble on the bench?

Surely he could have made a difference coming on for the off form/tired Soucek after their second goal?

If he's not to be trusted with a final 15 minutes he may as well retire now and not wait till the end of the season.

I don't believe VAR has the power to issue yellow cards? Only reds iirc

This should be used as THE example of trying to buy a penalty - he's knocked the ball out of play and is on his way down prior to contact. It is textbook diving, no question about it.

Ironically, if he had not dived, he would no doubt have been given a penalty as Zouma would have made contact had he not dived over him.
