Re: The Energy Crisis
That doesn't sound unreasonable to me mate.
I live in a decent sized 3 bed mid terraced and our Feb-Aug latest bill shows our estimated annual usage at 12600kWh of gas, 420kWh day electric and 2270kWh night electric.
The day one surprised me as I work from home 90% of the time and my wife only works 4 days a week.
We do use our dishwasher/washing machine at night if we can though which helps a bit, but around 1.2kWh during the day for electric is still a surprise.

That's mental. Going on my 2-3am usage (where everything is off apart from the essentials) mine would be 1.5 kWh per day.

Tight wads rule the world. Don't fear.'Appy 'Ammer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 6:16 pm Thanks, my Dad a Sparky changed all of my bulbs to LED, Plus I cook mainly on an Airfryer and the slow cooker is being prepared for Christmas. The heating hasn't come on yet but I have issued out to everyone blankets. I'm pretty thrifty and not so long ago I was being called a tight wad.

I'm sounding patronising but if others out there are thinking of doing this you dont need a sparky.'Appy 'Ammer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 6:16 pm Thanks, my Dad a Sparky changed all of my bulbs to LED,

is it just bio-mass, or is it hybrid, multi-fuel, etc.?Up the Junction wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 5:52 pm Our water and heating runs off a biomass boiler. Up until six months ago we were paying around £900 for three tons of wood pellets.
I've just been quoted £675 per ton.

Re: The Energy Crisis
I had my built in electric oven turn itself on the other day, luckily I was sat in the front room and heard it fire up. A quick Google and it's not as an unusual occurrence as you'd think, so that's now switched off at the mains supply.........

Re: The Energy Crisis
Is it one of those Pyrolytic Ovens?
That was always a concern of mine, that (so I was told) once the self-cleaning programme is set, then it is not that easy to change the programmed times/days. Don't fancy going out and forgetting that the oven will be running a cycle of c.500'C for a while.

Re: The Energy Crisis
It is mate, I did do a Pyrolytic clean a few weeks ago but never (knowingly) set a timer, in fact it only came on at the default temperature of 170c. I'm leaving it switched off at the mains for now until I can investigate further.......

Re: The Energy Crisis
Not sure if you bought it new or it came with your home, but i've heard quite a few horror stories about people being sold these and not given the full picture.
Seems like wood pellets are bloody expensive.
Might be somewhat to do with the war in Ukraine? I know of at least one guy who looked at setting up a pellet company, basically there's loads of trees out in eastern europre that are ideal for this. He was thinking of selling up and moving out there to set up his new business.

There's also plenty of 'free' fuel lying on the floor in our nearly woods, some of which is now currently drying out in my biomass shed before going in the wood burner...Hummer_I_mean_Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2022 12:52 pmI know of at least one guy who looked at setting up a pellet company, basically there's loads of trees out in eastern europre that are ideal for this.

Re: The Energy Crisis
I did wonder about this. We are quite low usage anyway at the time they allocated. As it's about reduction we get nothing for already being pretty good in the peak time.
