Sadly yes. Petrol is around £1.88 per litre today. A typical family car has a tank of about 55 litres.

Obvious profiteering. If people don't pay that then they will soon bring the price down. Although I expect the people who will be buying fuel from there have much more money than sense.

Two petrol stations virtually opposite each other. Shell was £1•92, Esso was £1•71. And people were filling up at Shell. More were at Esso obviously, but why were people at Shell made me wonder

Company cars with account cards? Our HGV drivers at work used to fill up wherever they got the best free gifts or Nectar points, regardless of the price.

St Neots, but they sometimes do a weekend special on price. I usually go to Tesco anyway. Not that there's much difference, as it's further away. But I haven't filled up in weeks as I have cut back on the use of the car, which also means missing out seeing my eldest daughter.

Possibly people using Shell have loyalty or Company cards, I did think that. It just amazes me the variations in price, especially when they are next door to each other

The initial estimate for this outage was three weeks. It is now the rest of this year.

This has resulted in a spike in European gas prices (c. 15%) and a collapse in US gas prices (c. 15%).

Dutch gas up 20% today on "compressor issues" in Russia (for that read, it may be legit or Putin might have decided to dial down flows). This could get really ugly in Europe.

£100 a tank and fuel bills at £3K a year is quite ugly enough for most of us!

Price is up over 20% again today. This is a very bad situation, I'll try and offer some explanations later on.

The gas price was up as much as 20% today and I think finished around flat.

On the back of the Freeport LNG problem last week, Gazprom has been flowing less gas. They are saying there is a problem with a compressor made by Siemens in Canada and sanctions prevent the repair being done. I suspect this is largely politics and Russia levering Europe's need for gas. They are talking about shutting Nordstream 1.

If this happens then Germany is in deep ****. Wholesale prices will rise but they need to rise enough to get demand to fall. Europe may well go into Winter with storage not full.

This is not the end of the story. Whilst Europe needs gas, it is believed that what they want is some Siemens kit to assist with oil production, showing their reliance on Western tech.

On top of this, Gazprom threw in this afternoon "well we could use Nordstream 2, but you've sanctioned it".

The stakes have been raised massively here. Biden already dropped some sanctions on Russian vessels recently. I wonder if this might be what cracks the European resolve. The economic stakes are so high here.

You are right EvilC. Looks like the pressure (not in the gas pipeline) is being cranked up
