Re: The Energy Crisis
Got a £66 credit on my electricity bill last month and no debit. Not complaining though.

Re: The Energy Crisis
Weather forecast generally for northern Europe this winter is as mild as f*** at present. Obviously this can change but it doesn't look like you'll need to burn any elderly relatives or children to keep warm.

But, just to be clear, if I want to burn my mother-in-law I will still be able to?

It'll keep gas demand down so you should proceed. Consider it as doing your bit for Ukraine.Denbighammer wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 9:32 am But, just to be clear, if I want to burn my mother-in-law I will still be able to?

Got one of them ivie bud things to monitor our usage. Wish I hadn't bothered. We're spending close to £10 a day on leccy & gas, and it hasn't even hit winter yet. Not sure if it's pre-£60 gov top up or not, but those numbers are scary.

I doubt they are deducting the £66 or whatever the government gives you a month. It is terrifying though.dasnutnock3 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 07, 2022 9:40 am Got one of them ivie bud things to monitor our usage. Wish I hadn't bothered. Re: The Energy Crisis
I think this place is typical of a lot of housing which some people (unlike me) have no choice but to live in. i.e. Old and prone to damp.
It doesn't have to be really cold to require heating, a drop in temp of 4 or 5gegrees,plus wet autumn/winter days without the heating on can make life pretty miserable.

Re: The Energy Crisis
Looking at my smart meter device, I'm burning about £3.50 per day. Is that good or bad?

Our water and heating runs off a biomass boiler. Up until six months ago we were paying around £900 for three tons of wood pellets.
I've just been quoted £675 per ton.

We are averaging 12kW per day (low 7kW, high 16kW) - which is now £6ish on the new charges.

We're supposed to get a massive £100 help ( you too if you're off the grid and can't get gas) but they can't work out how to pay it

Re: The Energy Crisis
Thanks, my Dad a Sparky changed all of my bulbs to LED, Plus I cook mainly on an Airfryer and the slow cooker is being prepared for Christmas. The heating hasn't come on yet but I have issued out to everyone blankets. I'm pretty thrifty and not so long ago I was being called a tight wad.
The biggest uses are the washing machine, fridge freezer and occasionally the tumble dryer which I hate using but have to in this weather.
The oven and hob are hardly used and are just a waste of space to be honest.
I will definitely have a blow out Christmas Day. I'm not going to suffer for that day.
I'm a 70's kid so I know how tough things can get.
Luckily I am in a new build which is insulated to the hilt so heating won't be a problem when I stick the CH on for an hour although I have switched off all the thermostat switches from every room apart from the lounge.
Good luck to you all. I'm so pissed off we have to live this way.

Re: The Energy Crisis
A 3 bed 3 storey town house. About 10 years old with solar panels which only heat the water. I'm mid terrace so I get the heat from both sides.
Yeah I work from home. But I would rather do that than travel into work each day. I used to think Tesco had the cheapest fuel but my local Esso and Shell which were extortionate are the same price
