ICC T20 Cricket World Cup 2020(1) (Oct 17th-Nov 14th)

Post by wolf359 »

Thought this deserved its own thread (move please mods if you disagree)

Covid postponement and moved form India. Being held in Middle East - Oman, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah

Starts today with the Associate members in a mini tournament of two groups of 4, the top two from each join the 8 big boys in the Super 12 (starts next Saturday) . There are two games a day (most days for the next few weeks)

https://www.t20worldcup.com/fixtures/men

Day 1 (October 17th) - Both games in Oman - Both Group B (Second place in this group drop into England's group)

Game 1 - Papua New Guinea v Oman (11am) - PNG minnows, Oman pretty decent in home conditions

Oman win by ten wickets, just too strong from PNG though some of their fielding was awful. Massive win run rate wise, this group could come down to the winner of Oman v Scotland for the second place

Game 2 - Bangladesh v Scotland (3pm) - Big game. Bangladesh one the of the bigger names in the pre-qualifying tournament (along with Sri Lanka) , the Scots hoping to qualify but a test early on.

Famous win for Scotland beating the group favourites, looked in trouble early on with the bat but set a workable target. They then bowled and caught fantastically. Though the last over made it closer than it should have been.

Day 2 (18th October) - Both in Abi Dhabi - Both Group A (Winners of Group A drop into England's group)

Game 3 - Ireland v Netherlands (11am) - Important for the Irish to get off to a winning start against a useful Dutch side

Massive win from Ireland with just under 5 overs left (their first win against the Dutch in a T20 WC game.) Great effort with the ball and the 4 in 4 set up this win. Slightly worrying the pitch seemed to play up a bit in the second innings and this square is going to be used throughout the tournament (we don't want that in T20)

If they want to face England they'll likely have to beat the Sri Lankan's but you never know

Game 4 -Sri Lanka v Nambia (3pm) - Sri Lanka should be far too strong but you never know.

Didn't watch it (as I was watching England) but Sri Lanka won with over 6 overs to go by 7 wickets. As expected a mis-match

Really looking forward to this.

For me the Indians are the ones to beat, a few sides capable of beating them on the day, us being one of those teams.

Looking forward to see what Livingstone brings to the team, could be fireworks.

I don't think the second one was technically an hat-trick as it contained a run out (middle one) but yes, 7 wickets in 7 balls not going to do you much good. 4 in 4 was the third time that has happen in T20I, great achievement.

Opps you edited whilst I was posting :winker:

Sky Cricket showing the warm up game between England and India rather than the 'real game of SL v Namibia ' which is a tad disrespectful I feel (though this game is likely to be better - the SL game is on Sky Sports Mix to be fair)

Warm up doesn't count as an offical game - normal rules, no TV umpire, can swap players within the 15 man squad during game.

India win toss and field.

England batting pretty solid 188 -5

Top 6 all making at least 17 in a run a ball or better.

Bairstow looked very good (bowled :smiler: for 49 - great ball from Bumrah),

Livingstone a bit frenetic 30 off 20, tried to hit every ball out the ground (connected to a few but missed several, skied a couple and got away with it.) bowled trying to launch another one by the impressive Shami.

Moeen looked fantastic at his fluent best with the bat, some lovely shots. 43 off 20 with 4 6 6 to finish the innings.

Moeen’s in fine form after winning the IPL, great knock there 43 off 20.

I like Livingstone too I think he could be a big player for us this tournament.

Who'd you'd drop to get him in? It is a difficult one, people will say Malan but he is no1 in the world for a reason. The top 3 look set. Morgan will come back in. The Moeen you can't drop him so where do you go?

For me Moeen can be the player of this completion if he gets it going with the ball as well.

Yeah it a given that Morgan will play but he’s well out of nick. Malan has to play being the ICC ranked no1 t20 player, not many other spots for Livingstone is there.

Not sure I’m happy with David Wiley, assuming this is final team (bar Morgan). Tymal Mills Looked very promising during The Hundred. Think they may go with Tom Curran though, not a big fan of his either tbh.

Sloppy in the field already for England. Hope this doesn’t set the tone for the tournament.

They mentioned the lights are a bit crap and Livingstone didn't appear to pick his 'drop' up.

We are bowling some dross at the moment. Wiley and Wood don't float my boat in T20 at all to be honest. Taking the pace off looks like it is the way to go.

Technically a defeat tonight - the dew makes bowling second hard (the toss looks like it will be overly important for the evening games)

Not overly convinced about the bowling but hopefully they can learn from the practice (which is the point of it.)

Livingstone didn't look good, there was swelling on that hand straight away.

Horrific over from Jordan this. Let’s hope he’s got this stinker out of the way before the Super 12 games start.

These Indian commentators cannot help it can they? Even doing an official ICC job they are so annoying to listen to.

Day3 (19th October) - Both in Oman - Both Group B

Game 5 - Scotland v PNG (11am) - Scots should push on from their excellent win and then likely qualify

Scots make it two in two winning by 17 runs. They will be disappointed how close it was in the end and it could cost them, Run rate could decide the top two

Game 6 -Bangladesh v Oman (3pm) - Must win for Bangladesh, they under a lot of pressure, they were expected to cruse through this group.

Bangladesh win, sets up a massive final game for the Scots. Run rate May decide it now

Bit of a farce this tournament. Empty stadiums, no atmosphere. It's meant to be a World Cup!

I caught the first bit of this before I went to bed. Sri Lanka were something like 16-2 after the first couple of overs and Namibia looked on top. I think the Sri Lankan bowling may have saved them :)

Morgan suggesting he hasn't discounted dropping himself due to his run of poor form.

I’d expect nothing less from him. He’s a good man. However he is worth so much in the field, an amazing captain.

Day4 (20th October) - Both in Abu Dhabi - Both Group A

Game 7 - Namibia v Netherlands (11am) - Dutch should win this one

Namibia with a excellent run chase to win by 6 wickets. Dutch out now. Namibia's biggest win as a cricketing country

Game 8 -Sri Lanka v Ireland (3pm) - Should be a good game this one

England vs New Zealand Warm Up also on at 11am - England bat first- Morgan plays today

Tom Curran left out of the 15 (even though all can play) for the second time, seems like he is not in favour
