The fag end of the season will be littered with fixtures against the distracted, the demotivated and the demob happy so previously predictable games start to become susceptible to these factors.
Yup, and my gut feel is it will happen earlier this year as the relegation battle seems limited to 4 teams at the moment so "mid table mediocrity" could well span 8th to 16th places. We play Everton and Brentford at the start of April at a time of the season when they might not have much to play for, ahead of Burnley and then tough games vs Chelsea and Arsenal.

We also play Man City penultimate game of the season when they may well have already won the title and could be thinking about a CL final.

A little succour for those worried we'll fall away in the 2nd half of the season. Where we are now is not a false position, we've been this good for 18 months.

Now to finally nudge one of these great half seasons over the finish line and do something special.

^ 74 goals conceded in those 59 games is our major issue.

Although we certainly need an alternative to Antonio, we also need to tighten up at the back.

When you look at the money we've spent on defenders and goalkeepers down the years, and even more recently, it's not really surprising.

A big weekend ahead for us:

- If Chelsea lose to Man City today and we do our job tomorrow we will be just 3 points behind them.

- If Villa can take a point or 3 against Man Utd we can have a bit more of a cushion IF again we don’t slip up tomorrow. Even better if they lose as even if they win their 2 games in hand we’ll have a 3 point cushion and a better goal difference.

- The Spuds of course have the Gooners tomorrow. We probably just about want the Gooners to win that one. As they only have 1 game in hand compared to the Spuds who have 3. So the Gooners would be less points ahead of us than the Spuds should they win all of their 3 games in hand.

- Wolves are at home to a more in form Southampton. Wolves have 2 games in hand and if they win them both they’ll only be 3 points behind us. We could really do with Southampton picking up something.

Finally next week we have:
Brighton vs Chelsea
Leicester vs Spurs
Brentford vs Man Utd

Going to be interesting.

We just need to concentrate on doing our job; it's the only thing we have any control over.

What will be, will be with the rest of it.

We absolutely do not want Arsenal to win that one.

Theyre looking like a far better and more dangerous team than Spurs at the moment. Best result for us is a draw, but failing that a narrow Spurs win is next best.

People always fall into the same trap regarding games in hand in that they assume theyll all be wins. Spurs rearranged games are Burnley, Brighton and Leicester, all away from home. Id be amazed if they took 9 points from that.

A win tomorrow puts us 5 ahead of Arsenal and 7 ahead of Spurs and will pile the pressure on.

Need to keep racking up the points

Hope Moyes guides us in the top 4.
He , the staff and the team are doing an incredible job

its januari 15 and a win tommorow ( 22 games played then) would move us 3 points of Chelski in second thats crazy

Said a couple of months ago that I quite fancied Chelsea to fall out of the top four. Big squad but not the best quality throughout.

Precisely this.

If they (or we) won at Turf Moor, Brighton AND Leicester, they'd deserve to be in the top 4.

They won't do that.

Because they don't deserve to.

If Conte were seriously interested in taking this club anywhere, they'd have made some kind of move in the market, by now, as a statement of some kind of intent.

They've got a Kane-shaped millstone around the neck of that chicken on their badge.

Arsenal are much more dangerous in terms of repeatedly getting >1 goal per match and pressing like they mean it for 90 minutes.

Leeds is a massive game. If we win we create daylight and then go to Man Utd knowing that a victory opens up an 11 point gap between them and us.

Lose against Leeds and we are back amongst the pack having played more games.

4 points from the next two games is a must really.
Definately need to get at least a point at OT.

Brilliant that Man U slipped up today. If we win tomorrow and I think we will, we are in pole position for a top 4 finish

Indeed, the most important thing is to avoid defeat against Man U, particularly as they have a nice set of fixtures after.

Burnley, Southampton, Leeds and Watford. Although at the moment I'd be surprised if they beat any of them
