I stand corrected.

But still don't see a player worthy of dropping 60 big ones on, madness.
I guess it depends which way you look at it. £60m is obscene money. I agree with that. For me around £30m-£40m would be about right.

Having said that, when you see the likes of Ollie Watkins, who had zero Premier League experience, going to Villa for around £28m, I completely understand why Everton are valuing him that highly.

That Man Utd thought spunking similar money (more even?) on Maguire shows how poor their recruitment strategy and management has been.
Maguire was reportedly £80m :newharry:

He's 24, quicker than Antonio, ridiculous in the air and a goal every other game over the last 3 seasons. He's the complete centre forward.

There us no way we are spending 60m on one player !
DCL won't choose us over arsenal

How much would ake cist 20m ? Is he out of contract?
If we are after a city defender can we get zinchenko?
Rarely starts goid age ideal cress replacement! 25m ?

Maybe Pep will do us a deal two fir 40m ?

Just leaves a striker?????

That must be up there as on of the worst value transfers in recent times... They're stuck with him too as they'd never offload for anything approaching that value, what with the wages he'd be on. Man Utd is a wonderful mess these days, hopefully it continues to be so

Add a few England caps in and you understand the asking price for him. crazy money all the same, but understandable in todays market. It would be great to be able to compete with the perceived top clubs for players like him, but we aren't at that level...

Sadly, I agree that he'd pick them over us. Worth being in the hat though. £60m shouldn't be that big of a deal if we can spend £30m on a lad and not play him.

According to the gossip, Arsenal are in for that Croatian lad at Fiorentina around the same sort of amount. I know who they're more likely to get but I'm gonna hold judgement for now.

Arsenal in for Calvert-Lewin for £60m. If we are serious about pushing on, we should be in the hat for that. He would be absolutely ideal. We wouldn't normally be able to poach a player from Everton, but they are skint and having a bad run so there's a slim chance they may sell. Whether he'd come to us is another thing all together, but we should try.
Some people say Spura fans are delusional.

Calvert-Lewin would see Everton to West Ham as a step down, regardless of our current league position.

If you offered Calvert-Lewin to join a club who finished 6th last season, 2-3 points outside the Champions League, competing for it again this season, in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup and in the last 16 of the Europa League. Or… to stay at a club who have done nothing for quite a few years now, more nearer to the drop zone than a European place and are completely going through the motions, which option do you think he’d choose right now?

Obviously if you isolated these factors it'd be an easy decision for any player.

But the reality is that our place among the upper echelons of the league is almost certainly a transient thing. A player like DCL, an established goalscorer, good enough to play at the top level and the perfect age, isn't looking at West Ham as the next step. In a year we could very easily be exactly where Everton are now. Lose Rice - Antonio, Cresswell, Dawson begin to notably decline - a couple of other players out of form or injured.

If you join Man United, at a minimum you're playing for and in Europe every year. And in a good season you're potentially challenging on all fronts. He'd be holding out for a move to somewhere like that. Little old West Ham's fleeting dance at the top is not turning as many players heads as you think it is.

We genuinely are not a step up from Everton.

He's not too good for us.

But like fj says, he wouldn't see West Ham as a step up from Everton.

Reputation - and the fact they spend a lot of money - would make Arsenal feel like a big move.

We would feel a sideways step.

Tend to agree, but there's financial fair play stalling Everton at the minute. If it was a fair race and us v Everton, he's not making that move in a million years, but if Arsenal think they can nick him and Everton are forced to sell to put some money into the team, then we should be in as well.

If Everton don't need to sell, we haven't a chance.

If DCL is legit available, it won't just be us and Arsenal. By all accounts Ancelotti loves him, wouldn't be surprised to see Madrid make a move, with Benzema nearly 34.

60m for DCL, good player but far too pricey for what we'd get in my opinion. We are not in a position to do deals like that.

Only way I'd like to see us splash big money is if it were for these:

Vlahovic
Nkunku
Adeyemi
Alvarez
Cabral
Jovic
Belotti
Berardi
Correa

Bar 2-3 of those, they'd be cheaper than DCL

Irrelevant when a bigger club like Arsenal want you. Plus despite us being above Everton right now it is only recently that we have real claims to match their stature and likely finishing spot, 7th.
Pretty sure the player would see a move to us a bit of a sideways step.
