Dominic Calvert-Lewin would 100% see moving to us as a sideways step at best from Everton.

Yes but we would be buying him to make us a step up

I think he would do really well for us - he's a hard-working old-fashioned type of CF,holds the ball up under pressure, but with enough pace to punish a defence that tries to hold a high line.

I don't think Arsenal's style would suit him.

I agree with DannyBoy. If we’ve got any ambition this is the type of signing we should be attempting to make. As long as he’s okay after his injury, that is.
Completely disagree - short of selling our souls to mega-rich arseholes, there's no way we're going to be in the market for £60m players. What we should/need to be doing is getting a scouting network working that finds the £60m players while they're still £5-10m players. That way, (a) we might be able to afford them and (b) for once, we might actually have player(s) with some sell-on value

Reputation - and the fact they spend a lot of money - would make Arsenal feel like a big move.

We would feel a sideways step.
What they'd pay him would make it feel like a big move!

Appreciate the conversation has moved on a little bit, but for me every minute Vlasic spends on the bench for us and not offering anything positive to our play makes me question more and more why we put £26m into him in the summer and didn't buy a striker.

With Benrahma, Fornals, and Bowen established as our first choice attacking three, Yarmolenko and Lanzini in the squad and clearly not moving anywhere, a handful of young prospects in the academy, and the option of playing Masuaku wide which Moyes seems to have taken up a couple of times, it really was like someone had money burning a hole in their pocket and wanted to spend it regardless of who the player was or where they played. Say what you like about him needing to acclimatise, about being the heir to Modric, or anything else, it was a signing that didn't need to be made when we were clearly crying out for a striker to rotate or play with Antonio. And now we're feeling the impact of not getting that player in.

No way DCL comes here, far bigger fish in the pond than us, would be perfect for us though

Barca president has said they need to sell to buy.
Well worth testing the water with Lenglet.

Might not be a battler but weds showed we need more composure in defence.

If we then start looking for more of a Coufal warrior type at left back we will be well set. Good to have atleast 1 on the back 4 comfortable in possession

You know, there's a gut feeling in me that Ousmane Dembele would be a good pick up from Barca. I don't know why - I've seen nothing to suggest him coming good on the promise that took him from Rennes to Dortmund and on to Barca, and I'm pretty sure he has less reliably hamstrings than Antonio - but just a gut feeling. Out of contract next summer.

That must be up there as on of the worst value transfers in recent times... They're stuck with him too as they'd never offload for anything approaching that value, what with the wages he'd be on. Man Utd is a wonderful mess these days, hopefully it continues to be so
Beaten only be Ake for 50m!!!

I like how mental these threads go occasionally. A while back it was all Martial and Mount, now it’s DCL and Dembele. It’s nice to be optimistic but I think it’s wise to manage expectations slightly.

Little chat in the canteen on my break with a couple of non-West Ham supporting lads, and they threw this out there - sell Soucek for big money - 25-30 million, and add 10-15 million to that and sign Kalvin Phillips and have England's DM pairing playing for West Ham? :chin:

I wouldn't sell Tommy, and surely he's worth more than £25m-£30m

Phillips will go for more than £45m - £50m I reckon.

I think Liverpool and Man City are interested too.

You lot should stick to driving buses!

Phillips is similar to DCL - they're players who won't go to West Ham when they see themselves on the brink of bigger moves and at clubs they'll feel are at our level.

We haven't got there yet, we'd need to sit in and make an impact at the top for a few seasons, at least another.

Phillips will end up at Man Utd imo. There’s at least one vacancy there this summer with the number of clowns they’ve got in the middle of the pitch.

If it means they’ll be less clubs interested in Rice, I am more than happy for the rest of the top 6 clubs to fight over Kalvin Phillips.

Yeah, no way would we stand a chance of signing DCL or Phillips as it currently stands. If/when either player leaves, it's be for a Champ's League club. The only way we sign one is if either of their careers begin to stagnate (like an Agbonlahor at Villa), and their stock plummets.
