Talks are progressing well over a deal for Manchester City to sign Julian Alvarez from River Plate.
City are expected to pay a fee in the region of £17m for the Argentina striker.
Obviously there is wages to consider but at that transfer fee, why is this not a player we would go in for?
Feels as though we have seen so many transfers not work out for us in the past that we now only want to ever look at loan moves with an option to buy if the player settles/works out.
For the 'selling clubs' that is of very little interest as they take a more short sighted view on things. If they are losing their best player, they would like a transfer fee. Crazy as it seems, they don't want to just give their best player away and hope that they get a transfer fee for him in 18 months time.
Until we start putting down some serious offers, that are attractive to the selling clubs, we are not going to be signing 'these types' of players.

I'd love us to sign Schick, or Calvert-Lewin but I'm convinced if we did they'd be hit by a truck the next day or decide to quit football to take up their dream career of being a life model.

Traore is 1/20 to go to Spurs.
Spurs reportedly agreed a fee with Wolves, Conte keen on him as a wing back... can't see this going well at all.
He is only 25, we can pick him up in a year when it has all gone to s**t and turn him into a centre forward.

These players are 40m and 60m minimum.
I honestly can't see it.

Well, there aren't many strikers who have outperformed Antonio over the past couple of seasons, are there? And even fewer of them who outperform Antonio at what Antonio does in terms of playing style.
My point was that apart from Antonio, we have no one. It isn't difficult to sign a player better than 'no one'.

It'll probably be great in games where Spurs will dominate possession and territory, but will come unstuck against anyone decent. I'd love to see Benrahma or Bowen running at him.

Daka has 9 goals in all competitions this season - the same as Antonio. Yes I would have really liked him.
There is absolutely no evidence we will sign a player, let alone one of of Schick’s quality in 6 months. We all assumed we would be signing someone once Haller left and that hasn’t materialised.
So yes, I would have preferred we signed a striker in the summer. The real difference is between us and other clubs who don’t have to rely on a threadbare squad.
Fair enough but it couldn't have been Daka, he chose to go elsewhere, so who?
Also, there's plenty of evidence we'll sign a striker.

BBC has Joe Gomez linked with Villa. I know he's injury prone, but he's a great defender and just 24 years old. (no idea if he's right or left sided)
I have also seen them linked with Luis Suarez this morning
Maybe we’re not in for a striker Manchester City want because he’s a striker Manchester City want. What would be the point? Maybe we did ask his representatives and they said “we’d prefer, by some distance, to join Manchester City”

No they're not - they're offering to pay his £100k a week wage, then roughly £400k a week to Man United to sign him.
What? So they would then pay Man Utd something like £7m to loan him?!

Yes, and my point is that Moyes wants to improve on Antonio, which isn't something that is easy to do.
He doesn't want to sign just A Body who sits on the bench. He wants to sign someone that slots in ahead of Antonio.
