I agree, but if we signed a striker from a just relegated team who the team wanted to get rid of on loan I'm sure plenty would be fuming.Southminster Hammer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 12:21 pm
Dawson wasn't his first choice for centre back, but he was signed because we needed one? Same rules apply to our striker search imo.
McBurnie on loan anyone?

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
This might get quite long. Apologies in advance.
I appreciate Moyes is all about long-term planning, and won't want to splurge his limited budget on a quick fix. If it means sacrificing a chance of a top four finish and winning a cup, in favour of scraping by until the summer when his prime targets are available, I think he'll scrape by. It's frustrating for fans who have seen so little success over the years, but it's pure, granite, Scotsman pragmatism.
However... it isn't just knee-jerk short-termism that's calling for three signings this window. On arriving at the club, Moyes must have seen that Ogbonna would need replacing soon, and that Antonio and Cresswell would need better competition than Mr Nobody and Mr Masuaku respectively.
Even without Rob Newman in place, he and his staff should have targets for these three positions. It's not irrational to suggest that one or more of them could be secured this window and, indeed, should have been signed by now.
TLDR: please buy me a shiny new footballer.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Erickson would be an excellent addition.
Yesterday he would have made a huge difference. He has the ability to control the tempo of the game that really only Lanzini, at his best and in his best position, can do, indeed as he did in the cup game to a large extent. Noble could have done it in the deeper role Lanzini played but his legs would have been awful. We needed that sort of player, the one who could dictate that we did not play the game at the pace Leeds wanted (which largely we did).
It is why a CB or two comfortable on the ball are also vital, people moan about Antonio but he was facing a thankless task. We were continually going backwards to CB whose passing into midfield would be questionable at best. They went long to Antonio, straight into the trap Bielsa set for us. There is no “magic” to the CB and DM being around him, cut the outlets and that is where the ball has to go. It is why I was not as enamoured by Fornals as many were (not his fault by the way), he played his game, all about effort and bustle, when we needed someone in his position to take time on the ball and slow it down.

But then if they did a job for us like Dawson has until a proper first choice centre back arrived ie Zouma, then nobody would complain?Bubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 12:33 pm I agree, but if we signed a striker from a just relegated team who the team wanted to get rid of on loan I'm sure plenty would be fuming.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
We're agreeing, if someone is available on such a cheap deal we should, but realistically there's not going to be a cheap loan available in January who's good enough even for the bench, we're the 4th highest scorers in the league!Southminster Hammer wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 12:41 pm But then if they did a job for us like Dawson has until a proper first choice centre back arrived ie Zouma, then nobody would complain?

We should 100% be after his. He would make a huge impact for us. He'd be one of the best players we've had in decades.
As long as wages are not way ott.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Eriksen is entirely the wrong player for what we need.
He's neither a centre-back, nor a striker, nor someone with pace for a counter attack.
He'd be yet another Fornals, Lanzini, Vlasic type player (albeit good at it) that just wants the ball to feet and work it around the midfield.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Strictly speaking fluffers aren't there for morale, that would fall to the director. No, a fluffer is the lowest part of the food chain and just hangs around touching the willii of the more important, well-endowed men. So it's sort of right as an analogy??
Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Like I have said before we have to buy this month because the players will not come in the summer if we finish outside of the top 6 and not in Europe and that is what will happen if we don't buy

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
From the Athletic today:
Villa want a centre back this month as they only have two fit (one being Hause)
Broja will either be sold or fight for his place at Chelsea in the summer, not a loan.

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
We are, I think yesterday we couldn't match their energy, and strangely Kral would seem ideal for this type of game, he's everywhere on the pitch really, but Moyes seems not to rate him? Defence starts in attack they say, keeping hold of the ball relieving pressure in games like yesterday are key. In Moyes we trustBubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 12:53 pm We're agreeing, if someone is available on such a cheap deal we should, but realistically there's not going to be a cheap loan available in January who's good enough even for the bench, we're the 4th highest scorers in the league!

I'd be on the phone to Chelsea trying to agree a fee straight away.
Villa aren't selling us Hause when they're short there, maybe they'll buy Diop?

Re: January 2022 Transfer Window
Broja surely won't be available now. His parents also want him to stay at Southampton. Maybe Che Adams might be available in the summer. But is he good enough to lead the line?

I prefer iPhones these days.
Joking aside, it would surely be a medical miracle if he is able to play football at the highest level again given what he's been through. We can't expect him to be at the same level he was before, shirley?
