I actually feel perfectly fine now... but then again I did this time last night. Hopefully I won't wake up in agony this time. I'm hoping it was just some kind of bizarre one-off event that'll never be repeated.Tenbury wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 9:59 pm Seriously, forget taking the codeine, you won't have a crap for days... Guaranteed. I've had Crohns over 30 years and I NEVER take it. Paracetemol is just as (in) effective anyway, so take that. (your local A&E sounds weird, maybe see your GP and get a referral(barium followthrough etc,) just to check yourself out.

As Tenbury said , I'd be looking further into things -
Can you remember what you ate before these severe pains hit you , did you vomit etc ?
Could be something and nothing but it could have been your gallbladder / pancreas - keep an eye on things and discuss it with your GP .

Well... I did eat a big chicken tikka pizza with red chillis followed by 2 large eccles cakes and a chocolate muffin (it was my cheat night). I hadn't eaten anything for the previous 7 hours. The Old Man of Storr wrote: ↑Sun Jan 30, 2022 7:59 am Burnley -

But... I've eaten that and much worse than that on a thousand occasions before. I've never had an issue with acid before and I'm known for having a cast iron stomach. Maybe eating so strictly the last few months has reduced my tolerance to other things... I did drink a high fibre alkaline smoothie when I returned home yesterday and then a couple of hours later, a chicken tikka (a healthy one with lentils, cauliflower, and shredded cabbage) and I feel absolutely fine this morning. My stomach was swollen for most of the day yesterday but its nice and flat again this morning.
The doctor did take 3 blood samples from me yesterday and checked for various things but apparently they all came back clear. He said gastritis was difficult to diagnose and you can only really do it by ruling out other alternatives - which he said he did. He put pressure all around my abdomen and it was tender right in the centre. I did vomit in the morning but I was kind of trying to make myself do that as I thought it might help... and all that came up was the water I'd just drank.
Edit: Major update... I've just had a poo! A bit of dark chocolate and a black coffee in the morning, works every time!

Haven't eaten anything bad and have been in self-isolation which I would have thought rules out any bug.
They didn't give me codeine or advise Gaviscon but have me paracetamol and ibuprofen.
Haven't had a **** since Tuesday but this morning the flood gates opened and it was hell.
Still feel no better although the cramps aren't as bad but still have nausea and not eaten a bloody thing since Tuesday.
Not only that the CAT scan found something that shouldn't be there (unrelated to the cramps) and I now have a referral to see a specialist within two weeks.
At the moment life literally stinks.

Strangely enough the same happened to me yesterday, had awful stomach cramps since Weds.Burnley Hammer wrote: ↑Sat Jan 29, 2022 5:19 pm Just spent 6 hours in A&E today. Stomach pain to end all stomach pain! Left me curled up on the floor and I couldn't straighten my body at all. Probably the most painful thing I've ever endured aside from a tooth infection. They gave me a small amount of morphine for the pain and in the end I got sent away with a prescription for codeine and some advice to get some gaviscon. Doc said it was just stomach acid. I have to say I'm a little skeptical about that diagnosis.... I have never suffered from stomach acid or reflux in my entire life. Why suddenly today? And why suddenly that extreme?

Did you check the constituency and colour of said poo?
(Check it's not jet black).

Four pints of Estrella and a glass of wine last night with my mate in the pub. Slept like a baby for 12 hours.

Re: The Physical Health Thread
No, I was never really that nauseous to begin with. Just stomach cramps. I still feel OK now after eating so I'm just going to continue with my standard diet which I've never had a problem with before... see how it goes. I had a spoon of gaviscon last night for the first time ever but I've not used it today. I'd prefer to use it as a last resort. And the colour looked fine I think. Not felt sick at all. It's all a bit strange.

Thing is, whatever it is that shouldn't be there, it's good that they've found it, if you know what I mean.
Not good it's there but good there's the chance of doing something about it.

Tim ,
Best of luck with whatever it is that shouldn't be there , hopefully it isn't anything too serious .
Try not to worry [ yeah , I know ] - it'll be dealt with whatever it is and it's better you know now than find out about it further down the line .

At least you now know what not to eat .
Maybe some steamed fish , green beans and a few potatoes next time followed by one eccles cake .
And I bet you ate them all quickly !!

Re: The Physical Health Thread
I exercise a fair bit. No gym anymore as got out of the habit during this pandemic, but I jog, cycle and occasionally play futsal. I don't drink as much as I used to but my blood presure is getting pretty bad. My general diet isn't poor in terms of meals. I eat pretty healthily at meal times My one big problem though (besides stress) is that I cannot stop snacking. I've managed 7 months off the booze once but can't go 7 days without crisps. Any ideas?

Maybe your meals, though healthy, aren't particularly satiating?Chrissieboy wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 2:42 am I exercise a fair bit. Hope you are feeling better mate. And scan any of our bowels, and you'll probably find some irregularities. Best of luck with the specialist - 9/10, it is nothing serious.

Could be all that salt in the crisps and snacks , mate , in fact I'd bet money on it - cut out the salt and watch the pressure go down .
Do it for a week - you'll see some results I guarantee you .

Re: The Physical Health Thread
Has anyone used a resource to see how well their diet is doing in terms of meeting the daily requirements of vitamins, minerals, fats, fibre, etc? I've used https://cronometer.com/ and it's been a bit of an eye opener. The fibre one especially was an eye opener. I've recently switched to a predominantly plant based diet (I still eat eggs and a bit of cheese) and am eating around 10 portions of fruit and veg per day. I thought I'd be way over the target but it turns out I've only just hit it. I must have been coming nowhere near it for most of my life. I've also found that it's difficult getting 100% rda of magnesium and potassium from diet, and cutting out meat (and grains as I eat fairly low carb) makes it a lot harder to get all of your B vitamins. In fact, despite the fact I thought I was eating about as healthily as I could possibly eat, I'm only hitting 50% of my daily requirement of niacin. Also slightly concerning is I'm somehow taking in 480% rda of iron despite the fact I'm not eating meat. That's quite a bit more than I'd like.

Re: The Physical Health Thread
The 5 portions of fruit & veg is wrong apparently, Dr's reckon it should be 12, but reckon the UK peeps wouldn't bother at all if it said 12, so they go 5 to make it possible/at least some good stuff going in to achieve - Reverse psychology thingy allegedly.
Re: The Physical Health Thread
I’ve heard the exact same thing.Clacton-ammer wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 11:24 am The 5 portions of fruit & veg is wrong apparently, Dr's reckon it should be 12, but reckon the UK peeps wouldn't bother at all if it said 12, so they go 5 to make it possible/at least some good stuff going in to achieve - Reverse psychology thingy allegedly.
I’m not that fussed about fruit but I still achieve the 12 portions each day with my veg intake alone.
I can only achieve this by juicing the veg though, which I do every day (as long as I’m not working)..
I also take 5 grams of chlorella, two high strength fish oil capsules & medicinal mushrooms every day.
I’m currently six days into a juice fast, the first three days were pretty grim but I’m really getting into it now.
This morning I started the day with a 100ml shot of freshly juiced dandelion leaves & their roots with a dash of lemon juice & ginger. Quite the heart starter!
The rest of the day has been three different types of kale, celery & carrots & some sweet potatoes.

Out of interest... why juice instead of blitzing in a blender? Seems like a waste of good fibre.
