Gutting considered what you've been through in recent times. I often find it difficult to know what to say / ask when I hear this but have they told you how treatable it is?

Re: The Physical Health Thread
Sorry dude, I missed this. I'm seeing the skin cancer specialist next week, and I will know where I am at then. I don't have any idea of staging and grading yet.btajim - mcfc wrote: ↑Mon Jul 04, 2022 5:10 pm Gutting considered what you've been through in recent times. It is what it is mate. It's no doubt crept up and bit me on the arse from my holidays as a kid in South of France where my parents in their infinite wisdom didn't know the meaning of sun-block and frequently allowed me to burn.
True story.
I look back at how my parents were, and the only thing I can take from it, is not how to be a parent

..from the growing old thread......
No prescription for statins - apparently the risk calculation had me at 2% lower than their threshold to start prescribing. Still, I got a nice lecture about diet, exercise and lifestyle from a 25 yo, 5ft 1in, 20 st doctor.
I'm 6ft, 225lbs, BMI 30ish, BP 115/75, vegan - yes I could do with losing 20lbs love, but maybe you should have a look at this condescending diet plan yourself before instructing others?
Bloods and check up in 6 months.
Jonah wrote: ↑Tue Jul 12, 2022 8:45 pm So turns out I don't have either......wahoo!
Blood results weren't so good though. Boooo. High Cholesterol across the board - HDL/LDL /Trigs
Overall - 7.9
HDL Ratio - 6.2
Balls.
This has resulted in mild Tendinous Xanthoma which caused the pain and lumps in my finger joints. GP appointment incoming, consultant thinks it'll be a few months on statins to try and bring the levels down. History of stroke and heart attacks in the family also. :arry:

Re: The Physical Health Thread
I’m in hospital. Crippling pains in my middle became so unbearable that I had to call an ambulance. From pokes and prods to finger inserts, it seems I have an abscess on my pelvis which needs draining. There’s a build up in there that just won’t disappear. They operate tomorrow.

Re: The Physical Health Thread
My darkest thought was prostate cancer. Thankfully a jellied glove confirmed all was ok. I believe I’m a little too young for it too.
I need to slow down. Save days out for football, I might kick drinking. This has frightened me.

Is your abscess actually in the bone, and how did they diagnose it please?

Sadly, you're never too young to have any cancer, even the ones that are usually reserved for older people. My bladder cancer was at 43, when average age of diagnosis at the time was close to 75.btajim - mcfc wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 8:45 pm My darkest thought was prostate cancer. Lay off the booze for a while, if you haven't already, drink lots of water, that's what my mate was told by his doctor any way.

Naproxen at the first twinge or Allopurinol full time.
Don't bother trying all the natural remedy stuff, it doesn't work.

Re: The Physical Health Thread
Good review HERE
Don't think this can ever be cured mate given the strong genetic basis to it, but my take on this would be if you also have type 2 diabetes and/or battling weight, then as the creakyjoints online article above suggests, new research is finding evidence of poor insulin resistance leading to increase in gout (not the other way around).
A way to 'hack' this gout problem, then, might be to get insulin issues under control. The real trick here is to maintain blood glucose levels, i.e. don't consume anything that spikes insulin. Sugar is a f*cking killer. Corn fructose even worse.
So even though dietary changes can only take the edge of the problems causing gout [see HERE] there does seem to be more evidence of diet and lifestyle changes indirectly reducing the symptoms by getting insulin levels stable and controlling/reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes.
Another side of this is exercising moderately when not suffering any gout flare ups. Exercise really helps to increase insulin sensitivity, i.e. encourages glucose uptake into cells which helps lower and regulate blood glucose levels.
Even though diet seems to have a marginal effect, I would throw this in as well which would mean:
- No alcohol
- No red meat
- Do not eat anything with added sugar/corn fructose (I mean check every label of everything you consume)
- Increase cardio when not in pain
If the above was built into your life on a daily basis, it could have a significant effect on reducing flare ups. It's worth a shot fella!

Re: The Physical Health Thread
A jellied glove will not tell if you have prostate cancer, they are checking to see if it is enlarged or not. The prostate gets bigger as we get older. You can have tablets to shrink it if it is healthy and causing bladder problems. I had 38 biopsies when mine was diagnosed nearly 3 years ago after a raised PSA test. My nurse told me to eat lots of Brazil nuts as she reconds it can help slow the growth. I have a small grinding machine and then I put them on my porridge, or in a yougart.btajim - mcfc wrote: ↑Thu Jul 21, 2022 8:45 pm My darkest thought was prostate cancer. Ruptured sebacious cyst
Mother of God. It was the size of Cheshire. Sat on my back for over 20 years.
It's ruptured and the vile smelling cheesy stuff is squeezed out.
Question. (I know it need surgery but it's 1 k private and NHS won't do it as a standard op.
Is this worthy of A and E or a walk in?
It's pretty grim. If you have a strong stomach look on you tube.
