Re: Russian invasion of Ukraine
Reports that the loitering munitions provided to Russia by Iran are proving troublesome for the Ukrainians. First footage below of them being shot down, but it is taking some adaptation.
Interestingly the US is providing more of their version to Ukraine as part of the next tranche of support. Just the threat of these must be causing havoc. Things have come a long way from ISIS using commercial drones to drop grenades.

I wonder if that's the anti-UAV hardware that the Israelis approved as soon as they were aware Russians were using Iranian gear.

A bit scary that these were launched in a wave at Odessa rather than targeting Ukrainian troops. Some of the footage wouldn't look out of place in 1944 London.
Further strikes on dams as well. Putin is losing this war, but going down swinging.

Officially nothing has been shipped, but it is not like Israel advertises this stuff!Danny's Dyer Acting wrote: ↑Sat Sep 24, 2022 8:46 am I wonder if that's the anti-UAV hardware that the Israelis approved as soon as they were aware Russians were using Iranian gear.

Re: Russian invasion of Ukraine
Let's be honest. The Ukrainians have been lucky that the Russians haven't even begun fighting yet. The really elite Russian units have been held back, but they're about to be unleashed.

Putin fires deputy defence chief amid supply failures
He'll be keeping well away from open windowsVladimir Putin has fired the general charged with managing the Russian military's faltering logistics operations in Ukraine.
Gen Dmitry Bulgakov, a deputy defence minister, was removed from his role on Saturday, the defence ministry said on Telegram.
The ministry said the 67-year old was "released" to transfer into a new role.
He will be replaced by Col Gen Mikhail Mizintsev, who managed Moscow's brutal siege at the port city of Mariupol.
Gen Bulgakov has run the military's logistics operations since 2008 and was responsible for keeping Russian troops supplied after their deployment to Syria in 2015.
But observers say he has become side-lined in Moscow in recent months, with many blaming him for the chaotic logistics operations that have dogged Russia's advance and seen their troops left undersupplied.
In recent months, the Kremlin has been forced to approach North Korea and Iran - two of its only remaining allies - for new artillery and drone supplies.

Re: Russian invasion of Ukraine
I imagine the head of the airforce may be falling down some stairs as well. Four aircraft shot down today.
Things must be going badly for Russia if aircraft are back in range.

Re: Russian invasion of Ukraine
Current Ukrainian breakout north of Lyman. If you look at that map, note the rivers. If the Ukrainian forces cross those rivers, the Russian troops south of that, especially in Lyman which is in the box, might be trapped. Another goodwill gesture or orderly and preplanned Russian redeployment coming up?

Re: Russian invasion of Ukraine
If, and its a big If, this is true, then I think this is a case of better the devil you know.
Stability, someone who rattles his sabres but wants good relationships. Was giving Putin a bit of stick too I think.
