Awful story and video doing the rounds today about a Russian POW being executed by Wagner Group paramilitaries after they got him back from the Ukranians. Won't describe or link it as it's very graphic but it's been verified as legit by a Ukranian journalist who met the guy while he was captive/prior to be handed back.

This quote is from the founder of Wagner. Shows the sort of people Putin has sent in there on this "denazification" mission. Reminder - this guy's crime was being captured in a battle.
“I prefer to watch history in the theatre. As for the sledgehammer, in this show it is clear that he did not find happiness in Ukraine, but met with unkind, but fair people. It seems to me that this film is called "To the dog - dog's death". Excellent directorial work, looks at one go. I hope no animals were harmed during filming."

Am I overthinking things by wondering if Russia 'withdrawing' from Kherson is a ploy? Waiting until it's full of happy Ukranian troops lapping up the flowers and hugs, then pounding it with what remains of their ammo in a final two fingers to the world?

Kyiv attacked as world leaders meet at G20
Russia has attacked the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, damaging residential buildings close to the city centre.

In what appears to be a nationwide attack, strikes were also reported in Mykolaiv, Chernihiv and Zaporizhzhia, among other places.

In Kyiv, three buildings in the Pechersk district were hit, according to mayor Vitali Klitschko.

World leaders are currently at a meeting of the G20 in Indonesia where they have condemned the war on Ukraine.

The attacks were reported as Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Russia's representative at the talks, left Bali on a plane.

Poland is in the NATO alliance, with its mutual defence pact. Next few hours are crucial

Was about to say we should expect some formal statement sharpish. Will be interesting to see what they go with.

What missile was it? I didn't think Russia had advanced that far West, even looking at the latest map it doesn't look like they are anywhere near.

They've been hitting targets in Ukraine very close to the border with Poland for a while. In part to put off the transfer of arms. Someone has seriously screwed up this time though. Fully.expect Russia to say Ukraine did it!

That Guardian report says it’s two “stray” missiles. That’s got to be less likely than one stray one I’d guess.

Incompetence or Putin sabre rattling? I wouldn't be surprised if the psychotic maniac has chosen the latter not caring about the consequences for the planet.

Cheers MB.

Risky game being played there with the equipment they are handling.

NATO article 5 says an attack on a member state is considered an attack on all (fair enough considering the nature of the institution).

Wasn't it in the news last week that Russia tested some nuclear torpedo sub (which failed)?

Really doesn't sound good

If they were Russian missiles then the experts seem to think this is more likely an article 4 issue than an article 5. Could see a serious increase in the kit being sent to Ukraine and even some kind of retaliation if they can identify the launch sites. Just have to wait and see and hope cooler heads are in charge.

I fully expect COBRA to meet. I'm guessing the old defcon status will be up too.

Nato 4 sounds better than 5 by the way.

He must know he couldn't take on NATO, unless he goes 'top of the world, Ma'.

Russia saying the reports are deliberate provocation aimed at escalating the situation. All speculation for now I guess.

The Poles have been kept on a very short leash since this all kicked off. They're desperate to get stuck in. I doubt this will lead to invoking article 5 but would think a lot more air defence is moved up to the border. There may even be some direct Polish action outside of NATO operations.
