Combination of quick thinking, skill, "smarts", trying something different , an ability to change tactics on field without the manager on the touchline necessarily getting involved.

In reply to Ironing Board over in the Vlasic thread - and perhaps a few others that have mentioned Souceks miss as though he missed a tap-in from 2 yards out.
This is the situation as he's just about to strike the ball:
And just after he's struck the ball:
He's at the edge of the box, 3 defenders lunging in front of him, Pope fully alert, and no option really other than to hit it first time. It would have needed an extremely well placed shot struck with power and was far far from being an easy chance. Anything to the left of Pope, at him, or not far enough to the right would have been saved imo. Anything struck low would have had a fair chance of being blocked. His best chance would have been top right, lifting over Charlie Taylors attempted block. It would have been a fantastic goal had he scored.

Mate, I think it's a 'let's sacrifice one of our own (Soucek) to try and show everyone that Moyes made a superb signing in Vlasic' sly move. I'm not the biggest Soucek fan but nothing wrong with that shot.Burnley Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 10:12 pm In reply to Ironing Board over in the Vlasic thread - and perhaps a few others that have mentioned Souceks miss as though he missed a tap-in from 2 yards out.

From that screenshot the pass to Bowen looked the best option.

Unfortunately that kind of quick thinking and one touch passing is not one of Souceks strength. Last kick of the game, someone lays it off to him at the edge of the box, he's going to shoot every time.Metal Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 10:20 pm From that screenshot the pass to Bowen looked the best option.
And anyway... based on Bowens recent shooting form, I wouldn't have backed him to score either!

Yeah, would probably have taken a perfect shot from that angle! Tommy didn't even manage a good one!Burnley Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Dec 14, 2021 10:12 pm In reply to Ironing Board over in the Vlasic thread - and perhaps a few others that have mentioned Souceks miss as though he missed a tap-in from 2 yards out.

I don't think it was the player...or even the shirt he was wearing
I think it was one of those 'it'll be given 5 of every 10 times thar happens' scenarios. This was just one of the 5 times it wasn't given...
