Re: Harrison Ashby.
He is hardly going to be living in a 2 up 2 down in a deprived area of Newcastle ...

Re: Harrison Ashby.
Newcastle's a great city. Certainly better than many parts of London.
I have a mate who moved up there 30 odd years ago. He says he would never move away now.

Not a strange move if you’re going for more money than this club was prepared to pay you, plus a signing on fee….Billy Hunt wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:35 pm Oops my bad, yes right back
For me it seems a strange move all round
Fairly binary really as was Perkins

I know, I've watched many episodes of Vera and I can testify to that I still wouldn't move there though

Where has that test thing come from?Pete647580 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:34 pm I'd be a bit cheesed off if it turns out Newcastle have got themselves a successor to Trippier, who failed to get a real opportunity with us because he didn't pass one of Moyes' attitude tests.

Re: Harrison Ashby.
Could be something in that. It can't be much more than a hour by road from Newcastle to Scotland

Re: Harrison Ashby.
So they must rate him more than we do then?He must have something about him for money bags Newcastle to sign him.
What I see of him,I think he will do alright.

If WHU didn't think he had a future at the club, they wouldn't have offered him a new contract.

davids cross wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 12:41 pm Quina.....now at Elche ( no me neither)
Ngakia.....Watford (Started about 25% of their games this season)
Diangana ....we know about him.
All were rated by lots on here......as was Diangana with me.
I always think the wrong question gets asked regarding our "youth" set ups. People keep asking why our youth players want to leave....or do leave.
My question is why aren't they very good. ??....why aren't we producing more good ones. Because at the moment, even the ones we let go do not go on to be top drawer players anywhere else.......yes, they can make a professional living and that's brilliant. But the really really good ones...where are they. I don't expect them all the time....but Dec apart...???
I fully expect Ashby to follow this trend......but the previous failures of others will have no reflection on him, and I wish him well. It just takes a really, really good one to break the barrier of this turnover of average youngsters. And that's not disrespectful...to earn a living as a footballer you have to be bloody good........but to be a PL regular you have to be special.
Question is, when the Premier League teams are the richest in the world and they can buy the best youth talent in the world, how many of our youngsters would you realistically expect to make it?
And are West Ham different from other Prem teams? There aren’t too many kids breaking through from U18s to U23s to first team at any club really. Probably with Rice and Ben Johnson we are ahead of the average.
We saw last night how a Div 1 team riding high and in form, actually looked outclassed against us, and we were even resting a few of our best players.
The Premier League is a much higher quality than it used to be so it’s incredibly hard for any kid to break through these days. You really need to be one of the best in the world in your age group.
I wish Ashby all the best, although I hate the fact he was tapped up like Perkins. But like others before him, I doubt he will be playing first team football at his shiny new club.

Yeah good luck to him. Closer to home basicallyDanny's Dyer Acting wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 1:42 pm Good luck to the lad.
Fail to see why anyone is getting too grumpy over this to be honest. Only part of it that leaves a bad taste is that it's another example of how tapping up is just a clearly accepted part of football these days.

Re: Harrison Ashby.
Which is where the argument completely fails.
Of course he could play worse then Johnson last night, in fact a lot worse.

Born and raised in Milton Keynes. Wouldn't be a shock if his pre-season trips with us were the majority of his time in the motherland.
