Crystal Palace 2-3 West Ham Utd (1/1/22)

Post by steveyrockstar »

Sat, 1st Jan, 5.30pm kick-off.

Massive game, innit? Palace are a tricky, difficult side. Can we maintain today's momentum and exert superiority against a side we would normally hope to be beating, or will our injuries, poor form and congested fixture schedule cause another "Southampton" showing?

Great result today vs Watford but I do worry about the vulnerability of our reserve defence against decent forwards. Our forwards will need to be on it.

Rice will be back, but I presume Fornals (Covid) and Benny (AFCON) will be missing.

They’re a lesser version of us. Capable of scoring lots but also happy to concede a fair few.

Lots of goals in this one, should be an entertaining game.

I'm going for the Full Monty here. For some reason, we seem to have the Indian sign over them at their gaff, yet struggle to beat them at home. No idea why that is, but it is so

Players can stay with their clubs until the 3rd so Benrahma will be available.

Needs to be a win. Arsenal are winning every game, Spurs picking up points, Man Utd right behind us.

Weve turned around our poor form with a good win, but we need to maintain the momentum.

Rice for Noble only change.

We love a worldy against this lot. Lanzini, Anderson, Haller, Carroll.

Who is going to get one this time?

I’m going with Said or Vlasic. Said capable of the spectacular, but Vlasic might have just gained confidence from his goal.

The Palace team today looked massive in size, big strong athletes everywhere. They seemed to bully and outpace Norwich. Will be a tough game at their place.

Two yellows is a one game suspension so I'd expect him back.

If Johnson is fit (providing cresswell isn't back)

Id like to see the same defence (well not like but it's our best available lol)

Rice for noble

Vlasic for lanzini

Another must win game?

If Palace win we're only 5 points off mid table. All getting very close in the 5th to 11th range & most have games in hands on us.

Still a win could mean we're 2 points off 4th

Here's a weird stat, it's been 16 games & 8 seasons since we failed to score against Palace. And that season they did a double of 1 nil wins over us, as part of a run of six games where we didn't score in 5 of 6 goals v them.

We've currently only won 1 of the last 6 (3 draws) or 2 of the last 9 (5 draws) against Palace so definitely one of our worst records of teams outside the top few.

No idea what team Moyes will play. Don't know who's injured in our defence - hard to keep up there - or who he'll start upfront. Benny's last game & Vlasic scoring so might both play a part.

I'm really hoping Fornals discovers his form. He was one of our top players before having a baby.

He'll be unavailable unless he returns a very quick negative test (or is it two?)

A point would do against this lot.

They very rarely get totally turned over, they're very big and more suited to dealing with our set pieces as any team in the league.

Their defence can be got at though.

Usually quite a few goals in these games and a toss-of-the-coin outcome depending on who's on it, on the day. A game where will miss our first choice centre halves - Benteke is always a bigger threat than Zaha, whilst Jordan Ayew turns in performances that only ever seem to happen against us.

Gallagher was missing for them today - waiting on test results.
