Michail Antonio: club legend?
The term "legend" is perhaps bandied around rather too easily these days. But with only five more West Ham goals under his belt, Michail Antonio may just have a legitimate claim to the title:

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?
Don't agree with that re Noble. Completely different to Antonio's scenario. For Michail I agree though.

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?
I think a statistic like that does put one in the range of 'legend' status. Antonio is interesting simply because I think there were spells, historically, where the majority of fans would have been agreeable to him being sold. Particularly in 2018 when we were evolving the team very quickly, and large sums of money were being spent, I think people might have felt after 17/18 we could have continued on without him. Pelly did rejuvenate him, and he has been integral to our goalscoring and attacking ever since.
Noble is a legend. I dont think you have to win something in order to be a legend, otherwise you might have a situation where the likes of Scaloni would ostensibly have a greater claim had to the title than many others, had Gerrard not equalised in the final fifteen years ago. Noble is a local, who captained the club, stayed through financial meltdown, relegation, unrest between the fans and the boardroom and seen numerous managers and players come and go, with some highs, and many lows. Noble, by virtue of his longevity, connection to the club, and captaincy will make him a legend. Antonio's goalscoring exploits, especially if he gets his way into the top ten, will also join the ranks.

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?
He probably should be there already but for the amount of games he has missed through injury.
I've no doubt he'll get those 6 goals soon enough. Hopefully all this season.

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?
Yes, he’s a club legend for me.
- A HOTY winner;
- Our highest ever Premier League scorer;
- Part of the squad that claimed our highest ever points total in the Premier League;
- Part of a squad that won the most amount of games in a Premier League season;
- Part of a squad that won the most amount of away matches in a Premier League season;
- Scored our penultimate goal at the Boleyn Ground;
- Scored our first ever League goal at the London Stadium;
- Oh, and scored the first ever winning goal at the new Sh*te Hart Lane.
A resounding yes!

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?
Legends for me are your Billy Bonds, Bobby Moores and Trevor Brookings of this world. Does Michail belong in that category? No from me. He's more a cult hero than legend imo.

From Collins dictionary.2. COUNTABLE NOUN
If you refer to someone as a legend, you mean that they are very famous and admired by a lot of people.

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?
Cult hero would be more apt. Great though his goal tally is, the fact that he's our PL top scorer says more about our strikers over the last 20 years.
Being our PL top scorer isn't automatically legendary status for me.

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?
He’s definitely benefitted from being our only option. Talk of only Salah being the only player with better recent figures kinda ignores the fact he is the only one at our club playing that role. Fairly certain had we been set up with a system that suited Haller he’d have equally legendary scoring figures too.
But I do love him and his celebrations especially against Tottenham and hope he goes on to score loads more. But I wouldn’t hesitate in looking for someone else to play up front right now.

Re: Michail Antonio: club legend?
Not quite yet for me - but if he continues as he is and stays until the end of his new deal he will be in my eyes.
The definition of legend which only allows for Bonds, Brooking and Moore as our legends is too restrictive IMO and means that we’ll likely never see another legend again.
Noble is already a legend in my eyes and if they stay for a few more years Rice and Mickey will join him.
