Re: Meat Loaf RIP
Can't pretend to be a huge fan of his music - although it's hard not to break into a big grin listening to Bat Out of Hell or Dead Ringer For Love - but this news has made me really sad nonetheless. I always really liked him, you know?
RIP, Meat.

His name was Michael Aday.
His name was Robert Paulson - I mean, Michael Aday.

Re: Meat Loaf RIP
I was gonna start this thread but you took the words right out of my mouth......
R.I.P.
The BOOH collaboration with Jim Steinman was completely over the top, outrageously pompous, hugely over produced by Todd Rundgren, but has shifted 43,000,000 copies.

Re: Meat Loaf RIP
First concert I ever went to was Meat Loaf.
Weirdly with nothing to do yesterday I took myself to see the matinee of the Bat Out Of Hell musical in Wimbledon. Was a total whim. Was a bit strange waking up to this news today.

Re: Meat Loaf RIP
I can remember being in Secondary school and the Bat Out of Hell LP was always being passed around among the Fifth Year pupils and I had no idea who Meat Loaf was but I really liked the cover.
This was around the time I was starting to get into synthesiser based bands and when I did listen to BOOH it really wasn’t my cup of Darjeeling. However fast forward to my 40’s and I started to appreciate him a lot more. I couldn’t call myself a massive fan but his stand out tunes have stood the test of time and he had a hell of a set of pipes.
This has saddened more than I expected.

And this is why he is a legend act. Like Queen, Abba and The Beatles most people love at least one Meat Loaf track.last.caress wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 8:15 amCan't pretend to be a huge fan of his music - although it's hard not to break into a big grin listening to Bat Out of Hell or Dead Ringer For Love

Re: Meat Loaf RIP
I can still remember where I was when I first heard about the album , ' Bat Out Of Hell ' -
I was standing by the side of the road just past the roundabout at ' Grogan's Garage ' on the outskirts of Amlwch with my good old friend Trevor - for some reason [ probably boredom ] we'd decided to go on a little hitch-hiking adventure ' Let's go wherever the car takes us ' said Trev .
Anyway , before the first car picked us up he told me he'd just bought this new album and that I should give it a listen -Trev always discovered the great albums before anyone else as he bought the New Musical Express every week while I only bought it every now and then .
Bat Out Of Hell was a bit too theatrical and over-produced for my liking initially [ I hadn't heard Born To Run yet ] and it took me a while before I came to truly appreciate it - of the original 7 tracks ' Paradise By The Dashboard Light ' stands out for me and like ' Dead Ringer For Love ' it has that wonderful back and forth powerful duet - 45 years on I'll still listen to those two songs .
By now you'll all be wondering where Trev and I ended up ......well , five miles from Bangor the second car to stop was a woman with a small child beside her , she asked us where were we going , I replied ' Oh , we thought we'd go wherever the car was going ' ....' I'm only going as far as Bangor ' ..' Ok , that'll be great , thanks for picking us up ' .....'and with that the small child piped up with ' But Mummy , I thought we were going to Llangollen to see the Eisteddfod ' ...' Urmmm , no , that's tomorrow , dear ' .
So , we got as far as Bangor and caught the bus home - just as well really , hitch-hiking home from Llangollen would have been ...hell .
Hurry up and arrive , Meat , Jim's waiting for you with a new song .

Re: Meat Loaf RIP
Was never really a fan of his music, but like the majority of artists he done a couple I liked, but you always knew it was Meatloaf singing, a true testament to the man/status/artist.
I loved him as Bob in Fight Club.
RIP to the big man.

Re: Meat Loaf RIP
Dad played some of his stuff when I was a kid, never liked 'anything for love' but did later like him in Fight Club. Sang so many anthems, stuff like that just isn't made these days. Apparently a nice guy as well. RIP
