In terms of great British sporting achievements, this has to be up there. If you watch Ski Sunday, you'll know who Dave Ryding is, he's a British slalom skier who been hovering in and around the top 10 for quiet a few years now.
He's just won his first ever world cup race and become Britain's first ever alpine skiing World Cup GOLD medallist.

You must remember this guy learned on dry slopes in the UK. In Austria, Switzerland etc skiing is the national sport, as soon as kids can walk, they ski. For him to beat them at their own game, fantastic achievement.

Re: Dave Ryding
Watched it with my jaw on the floor, absolutely incredible achievement. He's had it in him for a while but often been unlucky or just pushed a bit too hard and undone himself.
Not this time, as you say BILR the kids in Alpine regions get time off school to ski, for someone of his background to even get into the top 10 is something but to go and win is up there with scoring 2 holes in 1 in 1 round, back to back 9 darters or 147s

Just got a second place at the weekend too in Garmisch. What a great season he's having, he's now 4th in the slalom world cup standings for the season
