West Ham Utd 1-0 Watford (8/2/22)

Post by Shabu »

London Stadium Tuesday 19:45

We come into this game on the back of a fortunate win against Kidderminster in the cup which followed two losses on the trot in the league.

Watford have only won twice since September with their last win being a 4-1 spanking of Man Utd in November. But they have just kept their first clean sheet since before their new manager was born & that's usually the first thing a new boss tries to do so I'm not expecting fireworks on Tuesday.

We're on a four game win streak against against this lot with 14 goals scored in that sequence.

Not sure if Antonio will be ready for this but we could do with a nice win to hopefully start off a successful February, as we have four winnable games.

No idea what Moyes will do teamwise but I'm plumping for a nervy 1-0 win.

My starting 11 depends on whether Zouma is fit. I have a feeling unfortunately he won’t be. And I suspect Antonio will be on the bench at best.

If Zouma is okay I’d go with:

———————————Fabianski———————————-

-Johnson———Dawson——-Zouma————Cresswell-

—————————Rice————Soucek——————————

-Vlasic——————-—Fornals————————Benrahma-

———————————-Bowen———————————————

Subs: Areola, Coufal, Diop, Fredericks, Masuaku, Noble, Kral, Lanzini, Antonio.

If Zouma is out I’d go with:

————-——-—————-Fabianski———————————

-Coufal——Johnson—-Dawson—-Cresswell—-Masuaku-

———————————-Rice——-Soucek——————————

——————-Lanzini——————————-Fornals——————-

————————————-—Bowen——————————————

Subs: Areola, Fredericks, Diop, Alese, Noble, Kral, Vlasic, Benrahma, Antonio.

with leicester on sunday, antonio just back and zouma maybe not fit I would go with

fabianski
coufal alese dawson cresswell
rice soucek fornals
vlasic bowen benrahma

subs areola johnson diop fredericks masuaka noble kral okoflex lanzini

2-0 hammers win and back on track. bowen and dawson

I would not have yarmolenko in the squad after his disgusting dive rather give his place to okoflex.

we really need a win and a decent performance as we have not played well for some time and we are starting to drop down the table now. forget yesterday it was a bad day at the office but we got through somehow ! now is the time to find our league form and have a good february!

Never really doing things conventionally, Watford both sacked the hapless Ranieri and heavily refreshed their squad in the last window.

Hodgson wouldn't grumble too loudly if they emerged with another clean sheet away draw, I would have thought, but, after yesterday, I am expecting a reaction from our lot and a full-blooded effort across the park for us.

0-1 Watford.

Hodgson will make it hard for us. They'll play close together in defence, so the only way through will be in the wide areas, so accurate crosses and set plays will be important. A player dive in the box, under minimal contact might be the only way through and if it is this that gets us the points, there won't be any complaints

If we lose, or draw, so dropped points, when with a little more cunning, got all 3 they'll be plenty of anger directed at the usual culprits. This or that player, is crap, why did he play ( insert player name) cheapskate Sully is a ****, Moyes out etc, etc

He got back Friday morning. He's already said that he hopes to add to his tally against Watford so he must think he has a chance of playing.

If Antonio is not injured, he must play as a striker. And Bowen´s place is right wing.
Bowen´s value in not only in his attacking hunger, excellent ball possession, key passing and almost remarkable finnishing...
He s got also pitbull like hunger for ball defensively... whoever plays the right back...he s got 30% less work if Bowen is around.

With Bowen as a centre forward we get only 90% of Antonio anyway...and the same time we lose 50% of both attacking/defensive power on the right side..

I do not understand your motives to fix him on the center forward position and by this move get rid of all his strong abilities. You must be Watford fans  :newthumb:

Just start Dawson at LCB. It’s not like his distribution could get worse. Zouma is a different beast at RCB

What’s wrong with Antonio? Did he get injured on international duty?

I know he played 50 mins on Thursday and arrived home on Friday early morning which is why he didn’t feature Vs Kidderminster but presumed he’d be ok on Tuesday after a 5 day rest.

Can you show me the quote where Moyes said we didn't need or want another center back?
