Would signing Lingard mean we could afford to put another AM/LW on the back burner and go and sort out a LB to ST first?

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
It's hard to glean how good these youngsters from teams like Chelsea are as they so rarely get a chance to play, a string of loans for unfamiliar clubs playing all manner of styles of play never getting to settle.
Look at Bamford, pretty average bar the odd season, finally goes to Leeds permanently and it all clicks.
Is Loftus-Cheek any good? Spell at Palace was decent, Fulham a tad disappointing. If Gallagher flops on loan somewhere next season is he still a prospect?
Chelsea's model is career meddling to say the least, even Abraham flopped on loan at Swansea.

My personal view is we should be scouting far and wide. There is lots of talents in less storied leagues like Holland, Portugal, Belgium, Scandinavia etc.
If we want to stretch our budget and get players with good sell-on value we have to get people in from less glamorous locations. For all we know the next great player may be starting out in the J-League.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
If you are thinking about spending money on Cullen you might as well just stick with Coventry, far more potential than Cullen ever had. Trouble is he will not develop that sitting on the bench at West Ham. It is why Cullen had to move to get first team football and probably the same is true of Coventry.Colours never run wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 6:12 pm Oh FFS, at that price just bring back our own Josh. I can see Brownhill moving on and Kompany might then look to Cullen to replace him. How he does in the championship will be a far better gauge of his worth than a couple of good seasons for one of the best clubs in Belgium.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Its's a sign - sign Josh Brownhill and we will win the European Cup!
Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
I mean I'm not sure the quality of the Belgian League is great but to be honest Brownhill's stats aren't bad. I added in Declan because we all know how good he is. Cullen played a lot more minutes than both of them too, but you can click per 90 and see the stats from that.Colours never run wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 6:12 pm Oh FFS, at that price just bring back our own Josh. Brownhill vs Rice vs Cullen

Young foreign players will not get a work permit unless they are established internationals or playing regularly in bigger leagues/European football. At which point they are well known.Ironing Board wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 6:16 pm My personal view is we should be scouting far and wide. Maybe Kretinsky could find a mutually beneficial solution where young players go and play in Prague and move to us - similar to.what Redbull do with Salzburg and Liepzig. Prague would need to be playing European football.
It must not evolve into a watford/udinese situation

And I stand by it, hyperbole and all!Aztec Hammer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 28, 2022 3:32 pm Yorks has called him **** a number of times. Said he wouldn't pay £3.5m for him.
To be honest, my biggest issue is that some seem to think a 20 year old with one decidedly average season in the Premier League is going to 'solve' our striker situation. And the readiness by some for us to spend £25m on a player who has relatively little experience, and hasn't shown a lot of the characteristics that we keep saying we want/need from a centre forward in our system really surprises me.
He's the kind of player where I'd think '£15m, hmm, a bit toppy but there's potential there'. £25m is an outright no. The £30m+ prices that have sometimes cropped up on here are ludicrous. Especially with other key areas to immediately address.
