90min still has us working on a deal for Jakub Kiwior.

I wonder if this is one that could make sense where we buy him and let him stay at La Spezia for the season. He probably wouldn't get the guaranteed game time with us and that's a big risk for his World Cup prospects.

He could continue with La Spezia, get in another season of Serie A defending and development, play in the World Cup and then join us for 2023/24. By then Zouma will probably crawling about the pitch.

Sorry I should have clarified, I only see him being a good fit at center back in a back three, playing in the Cresswell/Kyle Walker role.

Dying for us to sign a decent left back.

Mental to think the most we've spent on a full back (if you can call him that) was Masuaku for £6m. After him it's Coufal for £5m and then Cresswell for just under £4m. Not on really, especially for how important that position is becoming.

90 min had us going for Rashford, Joe Gomez and Josh Brownhill at the start of the window.

Say no more.

Can't see any huge uplifts in the payroll there. Most of those who have gone would have agreed their most recent contracts as starters. Can't imagine any of them being on Yarmo's money.
Ironically, the biggest uplift there is probably Areola to Areola.

I agree. I wish he could be a full back. Defensively he is sound there. But the modern full back role, he is just not currently fit for. His forward passing and crossing is abysmal, sadly.

I love the idea but are we there yet as a club? I'd like to think so but still...

Our owner might prefer to loan any double digit signings to a certain club in Czech..

Spezia are in for Ampadu from Chelsea, apparently. Could free Kiwior up.

If Ampadu still had his dreads, I'd be keen on getting him in.

I've been a newsnow west ham man ever since the good old days of that tribalfootball black screen giving me seizures as well as the knowledge that Dean Ashton was on his way to Newcastle to become the next Alan Shearer.

Say we have a turnover of £200m that means we can spend £180m, our wage bill must be creeping towards £90m so that would leave £90m to spend absent any sales. Following year it is 80% (so £160m on those figures) then 70% where it will stay (£140m on those figures).
Any idea how owner funding comes into this?
As far as owners pumping money in, as at last year - 5 year owner funding was:
Chelsea £440m, Everton £299m, Villa £193m, Fulham £186m, Brighton £160m, Man City £142m, Wolves £141m. WHU (minus)£11m-

Does that count as revenue?
Or is that what everton have found, you can take the money but the it doesn't increase your turnover so you fail ffp?

Kiwior sounds very sensible as an option. Low fee, just 22, broken into the Polish national side, mainly a CB but has spent the last 12 months playing in midfield. Not sure a loan back works for us though.

that'll teach me to Wiki more often !!!!!!!

:crylol:
Another thing with wiki .. the appearances at the top are only in the league

So that's 33 league games

In total for chelsea he has played 71 games

I would love for us to sign an actual LB, CM or CAM at some point, we seem to be trying to see if you can build an entire squad of CB, DM and wingers, with a sole striker.

Players like Areola, Zouma and Vlasic won’t have featured in the 2021 accounts. You can add 6 months of Haller in though.

Players signed from clubs such as PSG will be on decent wages, as will any player costing over £30m. Whilst a player like Cornet who’s prem proven will be on a fair amount more than someone Masuaku. You’ve also got general wage inflation when comparing players like Diop who signed his contract four years ago.

Estimates below include Er’s NI.

Zouma = Yarmy
Areola > n/a (cost approx £5m/£85 pw )
Aguerd > Diop (cost approx £1.5m/25k pw)
Kehrer > Fredericks (cost approx £1.5m/25k pw)
Downes < Noble (saving approx £3m/50k pw)
Scamacca > half Haller (cost approx £2.0m)
Cornet > most Masuaku (cost approx £2.0/35k pw)

That’s about £9m of additional cost by my reckoning. I’d expect there have been a fair few pay rises since 2021 as well, such as Antonio and Coufal. Then players like Bowen and Soucek who are in line for a pay rise when the window shuts.

Makes sense why you have to think about salaries long term.
As the % to turnover figure will keep dropping to each year till it gets to 70%.

So exactly the same set of contracts the next year will breach ffp if your revenue doesn't increase. Maybe the tv deal does etc?

You can't bank on European football or premier league prize money. You have to increase your commercial revenue.

I'd guess one reason we baulk at various salaries is because of this.
Long term it should reduce transfer fees and salaries as most clubs simply cannot pay it.

Did you watch the match? If so, what was their left back, Pickering, like? Along with Tymon of Stoke, he's considered the best young left back in the Championship.
