There is some sense to that in terms of numbers recruited, don’t qualify and we could be looking at ten or more less games.
But it doesn’t alter the fact we need a left back, a cm and a striker to replace or cover areas where we are totally exposed, those signings are an absolute minimum need before the competitive season starts.

Looks like it's likely between pellegrini and maehle then in terms of players we've actually been linked to for lb (of course best case scenario it's someone better that we've never heard of they've been sorting in the background). Getting someone in for that position would make me feel a lot more confident about our dealings.
Brentford tend to play 3 cbs and wing backs, Hickey at least at this stage of development looks better as a wing back, and given he can play either flank it’s a good move for Brentford. Moyes on the other hand usually plays a back four and I suspect is ideally looking for a player more suited to that and a bit stronger defensively. Raum and Maehle can do both roles.

And for me personally, what makes me think he'd be a good signing for us, bar his potential as outlined in his stats above, is his attributes: pace and power.
I actually agree. He is a good goalscorer and has the attributes to be an exceptional one (outside of the pace and power you mention is the runs he makes which are unheard of for someone of his age).

He will be a decent out and out striker for someone and that is the problem, we don't play an out and out striker. We play a forward who is heavily involved in the build up play and has more than goals about them.

It isn't about being able replacing Antonio's 13 goals, it is about replacing his 23 goal contributions and all round impact on how we play. Broja has shown nothing to suggest he can do that. Whether that is because he hasn't been required to (having only played in two striker formations), or because he cannot do it is the unknown. We'd be paying a very high price to find out. That is my problem with him.

I know a few on here are desperate for an out and out striker, but they never quite explain how that fits with the other pieces of our team. What does Bowen look like alongside that player? What is our outball?

For me, we've looked at our best with Antonio or Arnautovic leading the line. Forwards rather than out and out strikers. That's what we need to spend big on.

Lingard in next week and the rest will flow from there ⚒
I’d say there’s only 34 days until the season starts and we have 7 games in August.

Absolutely no excuses for taking this to a deadline day scramble after the farce in January,

I think Moyes believes he can turn Broja into Arnie mk2, and he has another year or so of Antonio as the main man to complete the transformation. The raw material is there.

MB wrote: Sun Jul 03, 2022 8:49 am That I imagine is about the morale of the squad. Players get quite heavily incentivised pay. Being in a match day squad gets you a bonus of £x, coming on as a sub gets you £y. Sticking a youngster on the bench instead of a seasoned Pro plus bringing them on instead of the seasoned Pro is taking money out of the seasoned Pro's pocket.

Management is about more than just what happens on the pitch.
Suspect Moyes also wanted to keep his main squad together with Norwich coming straight after the Europa exit at Frankfurt. The bond between players and fans ( most at Norwich were in Germany) was very apparent at Carrow Road and Moyes seems keen to keep that rolling.

From a pal of an ITk, as ever, take with a handful of salt.

Broja - offer of 30m on the table. Chelseas are in no rush to sell, want to look at him in pre-/season before making any decisions. Valuation is closer to 40m. This is a slow burner.

Chelsea have also offered 100m for Rice. West Ham turned it down immediately.

Moyes doesn’t rate the fella from Villarreal Danjuma. Said that he’s not good enough. Sullivan liked the look of his YouTube videos, and was offered him by his agent for 35m. Wanted to do the deal Moyes said no.

We have a bid in for an unnamed midfielder 40m from Lille. Lille wants 60m so not happening. (Im guessing this is either Onana or Sanches)

Lingard - we have offers him around 120k/week but he wants 230k week and will prob go to Toon or Everton

There’s no way he’s asking for 230k a week. He’s not getting that anywhere.

If he thinks he’s worth the crazy money some of his old mates at Man Utd are getting it could be. Sanche and Varane are reported to be on £300k +, a few years at Old Trafford probably take you way past the already ridiculous levels PL players are rewarded at. It’s totally unconnected to the real world.

All I know is he is a right wing back with Bristol City
We have firmed up our interest, but City are reluctant to sell. Being reported in local press now

Considering Newcastle have said they won't be paying silly wages and pulled out of the running for Lingard he won't be getting £230k a week not here, Everton or Newcastle

Everyone happily accepted he wanted £180k a week. I’m sure his agent/brother and he are cocky enough to ask for £230k and see who will get closest. Probably Everton will…

hammerman11 wrote: Sun Jul 03, 2022 6:38 am so one by one our perceived targets are getting signed up.

left back maehle , pellegrini or basey. looks like pellegrini 15m
CM brownhill 15m, teilemans 30m
AM lingard saga , sarr 20m
CF broja 30m, dennis 18m

it would be good to get another in this week ,

my four

pellegrini
teilemans
broja
dennis

maybe lingard will be the fifth but I think we should push on with regards to all areas we need covering.
With respect H11, it goes to show how crap 'our perceived' list is. The only fact is we have no facts. Makes for a great forum though.
