The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
After the winter of discontent, time to think about the summer.

Oh jeessh Bristol. Here we go again, batten down the straight jackets. I don't think I could handle four months of speculation and unrealistic targets.

We tried but none of our first choices were available and we aren’t just going to waste money.
There’s always January.
Ogbonna is back he will be like a new signing.

Way to early for this thread!
A striker. A left back. A holding midfielder. A centre back.
Déjà vu.

I feel your pain, but people are already speculating on other threads so better to get it in one.

Can only do the outs at this stage.
I think I'm going to buy a 4 pack of beer every time I see Lloyd f-ing Kelly mentioned.
I will probably be posting from a Sally Army Detox Unit within a fortnight.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
The first thing I'm going to ask about are the two Leeds players. I'm sure more than just us will be in for them. Are we still interested or was it a smokescreen to hide the fact we were not going to spend.
The other dynamic is if they stay up or go down.
Which brings me to the supposed championship player we were after. But waiting to see if they got promotion.
I do not want to see our good team ravaged. Yes we needed a spark in January but that's the past. I do, however, think we have room to bring in 5 players. Don't play them all at once. Let them bed in. Make our current players know they need to put a shift in.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
After our (lack of) trade in January, and the potential sheer volume of required incomings in the summer, I’m finding it very hard to feel in any way positive about what state the squad may be in come after the summer

Check these comments off as we go:
‘It’s early in the window, ages to go yet. People knicker wetting already’.
‘Only X, Y and Z are signing players, no other clubs are, chill out’.
‘It’s clear we’re putting in big bids for players so there’s money to spend’.
‘You get much better value late in the window anyway’.
‘We can get by the first few weeks of the season without signings, this team has achieved a lot in the last two seasons’.
‘Moyes is doing his due diligence - I for one am glad we’re not just buying any Tom, Dick and Harry.’
‘If X has an injury issue we didn’t know about before, it’s quite right that we be cautious and only go for a loan’.
‘I reckon they will crack and we will get the deal(s) over the line’
….
‘Well we have a lot of promising youngsters we can use.’
‘It isn’t worth signing players if they’re not better than what we already have.’
‘We put in big bids, but they weren’t accepted. What else can we do?’
‘January will offer better value anyway’.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
There are a lot of good players with contracts expiring this summer. Being pro-active and quick to act could save us a lot of £ to spend on more expensive targets such as DCL, Raphinha, Phillips, Etc.
Lingard, Tarkowski, Kamara, Lacazette, Nketiah, Januzaj, Origi, Belotti would all be decent additions without a transfer fee.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
Important window. But I fear it will either be the spend over a small number of players, or the mystery bag. Neither approach addresses long term problems. The former means some hot button positions won’t be addressed. The latter just satisfies the thirst for transfers but is likely not to solve long term issues.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
I thought I couldn't do this again. Turns out I can.
I'd love a bit of depth in CM. And then the usual spots of CF, CB and LB.
When I write it out I realise all are very unlikely.
Do wonder if there'll be an attempt for big bucks at CF.

Re: The Summer Transfer Thread 2022.
It’s really important that we get European football, it’s going to need dictate the kind of player we’re going to be able to attract, which was one of the reasons it was so important to get a striker in Jan...
We need quality players but we also need squad fillers. We probably need around 8 players and that’s not even including the players that’ll leave in the summer!!
