It's fine if you take the hundreds of rumours with a pinch of salt, but when you hang off every word, believe every tweet, believe everything you read, it will inevitably lead to disappointment.

Twitter is a toxic platform, with so much bickering, so much desperation for a signing, any signing just so you can brag to faceless accounts of other football clubs.

This transfer thread has the slight stench of that platform now, the desperation to sign every name we are linked with, and the anger and disappointment when we don't, it's tiresome.

I get that the stance myself and others take is equally as annoying and tiresome, I do, and I apologise if I come across as rude, I just don't see the need to get stressed by rumours, surely it's better to just stand back and wait, rather than react to everything and everyone we are linked with, it can only lead to more disappointment.

I miss the days when the first you knew of a new signing was when the club announced it, these days it's more a sense of relief, because of the hourly/daily updates, it feels that these deals are dragging, when in reality they probably aren't.

It's hard enough knowing what we know about the owners, and their negotiation tactics etc, without adding to the stress of it all by thinking we've missed out on players when they sign for other clubs, when we may not have ever held and interest.

Apologies for going off topic.
Deserves its own thread. Great post.
An old adage which imo relates to ‘that platform’ appropriately: sh*t in, sh#t out!
Adds nothing to real life.

There are plenty of other sites that only reveal transfers when they are virtually done (bbc). Also, there are heaps of other threads on kumb if you find this one stressful.

Isn’t the point of a site like this that the posters dictate the path a thread takes? As long as it’s not abusive and stays on topic I don’t get the problem. You and others might think it fine to sit back and wait for signings but others don’t. Im not sure I’m on board with the idea that people are being told how to think, feel and react about a subject. Freedom of speech and all that.

Isn’t this the most popular thread on KUMB BTW?? Some people must like it?
Whilst I think we can move on from this topic - the weekends really are dull for transfers - I would say that yourself and EastVillage (can’t be bothered to remember other tolerable sorts too) do concern with a level of calm.

In fact, you do concern. I have no issue with concern. I have issue with the whiny madness that pierces this thread, takes it off topic and provoked anger. And it’s hard to argue with the ones who react, you get people coming in spouting absolute nonsense based on nothing and you’re on a forum for discussion. It’s gonna cause a reaction.

Concern like yours, rational worry, doesn’t cause an issue. But the wilder stuff causes problems.

In the same way I don’t mind this thread having jokes, tangents and the odd gif. It’s when it goes from one in a few posts to every other post that it causes issues, especially when it’s not funny or we get into the Jesus jokes, the weirdly sexual stuff.

The other day we had a page where there were more edited posts by moderators than actual posts come the end. We also have to cater to more than just the posters who are here most.

Manchester United are in for a second left back to follow on from Malacia.

Looks like Shaw's number may be up.

He doesn’t mention us so guess we aren’t in for him.
Could well be two reasons. One, he's 29, maybe Moyes is hoping to find someone more longterm. Two, his playing style (from the bits I've seen) is very similar to Cresswell, so arguably we end up with similar issues, and he isn't a big enough upgrade on those qualities.

To be honest, left back is the one place I think we really need to be making a key, and high quality, signing. Many other positions that we supposedly want someone on are adding depth as much as anything. We'll be more than fine with the same front 6 starting in August - we would not be with the same back 5.

I bet there's a bit of a tug of war because certain people don't want to spend big at LB while others do.

Do you think Moyes could fix Shaw, he seems to have lost his way.

Shaw is on at least 100k a week. Too expensive, he'll want a raise like everyone else

People recommending Mearle as a LEFT back.

I thought that he is a RIGHT back.

Big, strong, quick, with an excellent left foot. Would be a top class signing and is a clear-as-day upgrade on Cresswell.
AGAIN!!!

Raum won't go to England. He doesn't consider leaving the Bundesliga and putting his starting sport for the German NT in jeopardy. He's waiting to join Dortmund over the next couple of days or weeks.

He can do both. He has said in the past that he has no preference.

Some think he is better going forward when on the left.

My memory isn't great and I haven't really checked but isn't Luke someone that's often getting injured?

I don't see any of the top 6 really coming in for him. We might be his best option if he's been told to look for a new club

That also is nice!

Let's get someone no other club wants because he keeps getting injured.

Sounds like the old days.

A bit like Ben but in a different way.

Maehle looks like Hickey in that he seems to cut in onto his right to score. We'll get less assists but probably score a few more from that position.

I initially had my reservations, but I have no issues if it's the way we go

He feels like the unrated sort (like Coufal) who isn't on the radar of bigger clubs but will probably add a lot of value.

Get him right mentally and he is exactly what we need. Loan reduces the risk and just pray he hasn't been back on the Frank Lampard diet while out injured!
