One appears to be sexy enough for the punt...
McNeil was contributing around 20-25% of Burnley's goals in the two seasons before this one at 20/21. Bowen provided around 35% of ours.

If he provided 20% of the goals for us he'd have done 12 goals and assists. Not a bad return for a 22 year old.

This thing about McNeil not having pace, is this one poster’s opinion that others have adopted?

I’ve always thought pace was regarded as one of his core attributes. In an interview with the bbc, the player himself rated himself as fast as Fredericks.

I know but we're speaking in hypotheticals.

His output is obviously going to be lower playing for a team like Burnley, it's safe to assume his output would increase playing for us.

Like Jota at Wolves Vs Jota at Liverpool.

You also get dropped for Burnley if you dare try and score a goal.

Like Jota at Wolves Vs Jota at Liverpool.
Or like Grealish at Villa vs Grealish at City

I get your point but I'm not sure it's as simple as that

I'd rather we just sign a left back.

McNeil would be ok as a squad filler but he doesn’t improve our first XI imo.

Under Moyes, I think he’d offer us more than Benrahma in terms of doing what the manager wants. But that might be a tad controversial!

McNeil is a decent player and would do better in a more attacking team than Burnley - but we need to be mindful of what attributes we need to add to our own team. Pace seems to be an absolute requirement for any attacking additions, which rules McNeil out imo.

How is McNeil for pace? That is what we really need down the left. Some pace and directness.

He sounds very useful for us here. Too often our balls into the box are poor. A good crosser also helps ease Cresswell onto the bench.

Former Burnley striker Peter Crouch

"I could see him at a club like Manchester United. I think he is good enough.

"I was training there last year and the first session I asked the lads about him because I didn't know much about him.

"From that point I knew straight away from training that the lad has talent.

"He hasn't got a great deal of pace but he goes past people and he is comfortable on the ball

"He is a level headed lad. The grounding that he's had at Burnley will benefit him when he eventually goes on to a bigger club, which he will do.

"If he was at a big club now he would be spoken about in much bigger terms. I can't speak highly enough of him."

McNeil would be a solid enough mid-table ordinary Prem winger for us and i’m sure much of the fan base would overlook his limited ability as long as it’s made up for with work ethic but ****ing hell i’d like us to aim higher
