FAC5: Southampton 3-1 West Ham Utd (2/3/22)

Post by -DL- »

St Mary's Stadium, Southampton.

Wednesday, 2nd March 2022

KO: 1930

A tricky tie.

Will Moyes go full strength or rest a few with Sevilla and Liverpool coming up?

Agree with what you have just said on EUMB. Southampton are in form and will likely go 100% as they have nothing else really to play for, we have bigger fish to fry right now so sadly it will be down to Noble and the kids to try and pull something out of the hat. Penalties are best chance I feel.

For the next two games we should aim to still be in it at the 45-60 minute mark and then make some changes.

God the last thing we need is extra time

Hopefully we can keep up that level of performance regardless of the 11 that start. I don't want to see us throwing the cup away but the 3 points today have put us right back in contention for the European places, I imagine the FA cup is the least important on DM's list of priorities.

Fornals hasn't played much lately, sure he could go again. Expecting to see Vlasic and Benny as well with Noble instead of Soucek. Kral on at 45 to replace Rice if he's trusted for 45 mins!

Cresswell needs resting I think, picked up a few knocks today, back 3 of Dawson, Zouma and Diop with Fornals LWB.

We have plenty to play for this season if thats what you mean.

Two cups and the chase for Europe in the league.

I'd give Vlasic, Benrahma, Diop, Kral and Areola all minutes and try to take Bowen, Zouma and Fornals off as early as possible.

What I mean is I'd go full strength from the off as the alternatives are limited. Possibly rest Fabianski but leave the rest alone to start with.

Areola, Diop, Vlasic and Benrahma can be looked at to come in. There is also Noble/Kral in the middle if he wants. I'd certainly look at the first 4. Whatever team we put out is going to be fairly strong even with changes and we can't make many. Given the amount of games we have, he does need to look to give minutes to some of these when he can.

Antonio will have to start on the bench, surely.

But he does love a goal against Southampton, and this could go to ET. In fact I’d say it’s likely.

Vlasic and Benrahma to feature, with Areola coming in for Fab. Otherwise full strength.

Liverpool away is the one I’d rather rest any of the others for personally.

Very annoying that Southampton played on Friday, those extra days of rest will no doubt help them.

We have a goal difference to protect.

Look how close it is between us, Man Utd and Arsenal.

That could be the difference between qualifying for Europe or not.

Southampton have lost just once at home this season. Going to be a tough game

I would go full strength.

This game has penalty shootout written all over it

Just in case not everyone knows, the match is being shown live on BBC's red button.
