Re: Shane Warne
Wow, this is a shock. Just shows you gents, no matter how much money or fitness you believe you have, things can get very tricky once you enter into the 50’s. Very Sad

Re: Shane Warne
That is shocking. We were just listening to his commentary during the Ashes, and now he's gone.

That's cheered me up Ray. Tin Hat (aged 54 and a half years).
Rest in Peace Shane. One of the all time greats.

Re: Shane Warne
Without doubt the greatest bowler I've ever seen.
Some deaths really kind of shock you, don't they...?
This is one.
RIP Shane,

Re: Shane Warne
I can't think of a cricketer you'd watch in the same way you'd watch Shane Warne. He was captivating, terrifying, probably just the right level of arrogance for the most part, and a skill level that was stunning, and stunning over and over again even though you knew he could do these things.
Competitive yet jovial and somehow casual, can imagine this one hitting a lot of Australians quite hard. And he bloody loved Australia, Australian sport, he was so proud of Melbourne's footprint on the sporting world and wasn't shy of saying so. Seemed genuinely enthused with teaching people about the sport, about spin bowling, about how they could improve.
Quite incomparable, for someone of my age. There are people who have faced untold amount of cricket balls who could not explain how he bowled some of the deliveries he did.
Bowling, Shane!

Can't believe it. Not only a legend but a great character.
We'll be united as England fans in mourning a player who was such a thorn in our sides but still loved.

That is out of the blue. WoW. 52 is nothing (only 8 years on me.)
Massive character and a legend of the game, will be missed. Changed modern cricket with one ball.

Re: RIP Shane Warne
Jesus this has come as a shock. Had some issues of course but for me the most box office cricketer I ever saw. Probably single handedly reinvigorated the game. A once in several generations talent.
52 is far too young RIP

Re: Shane Warne
I was really shocked to hear of his sudden death , always struck me as a thoroughly decent bloke. A sad loss to cricket and his fantastic punditry. Thoughts are with his family as he was relatively young.
RIP

Re: Shane Warne
Thinking about it the Strauss ball in 2005 was even more amazing. Warne had been around for a while by then and still managed to completely bamboozle a quality batsman. We will never see his like again.

Re: Shane Warne
Genius is a horribly overused word in sport.
He was one.
Always seemed to be absolutely fair and honest with his opinions..........especially with England I thought.
England really grew to love him I think.

In terms of greatness and influence he was second only to Viv Richards as a cricketing great in my life time.
708 test wickets when you had McGrath (Lee, Gillespie too) taking his share at the other end.
Chatting to a friend about watching the "ball of the century" together on TV in 1993. He tranformed spin bowling that day and over the next two decades brought showbiz, theatre as well as skill to cricket. He also was a spin evangelist giving advice freely to anyone who would listen.
An absolute giant.

Re: Shane Warne
Never have I managed to hate and love the same player in any sport, until Shane Warne came along. Hated him for ripping through England with alarming regularity but loved watching him do it at the same time...because he was mesmeric, engaging and utterly sublime as a bowler.
Then he moved to commentary, and I hated the fact he was always right with what he said, but loved hearing him explain why. He bought hilarity to the party on many occasions, and to be taken at the young age of 52 has robbed cricket of what could have been many more years of engrossing commentary.
Rest in peace Shane Warne.
