Still feeling incredibly positive about next week, we must make sure we do not concede an early goal though which is what I think they will be looking for to try and take the sting out of us/the atmosphere.

Equally if we bag a goal in the first 15 minutes the momentum shifts dramatically and hopefully the noise inside the ground will increase another level. If Sevilla were to concede early they may start to doubt themselves too with their away record in Europe of late.

On a side note, I thought the referee was very good last night and let the game flow a fair amount which was a main concern of mine with all the play acting that goes on in La Liga - let’s hope we have another strong ref for Thursday.

he certainly put a few tackles in. means he has finally reciovered from his injury as he trusts his body again.

first goal so important. get it and the bowl will take off !

we can do this with our best team firing !

areola
johnson dawson zouma cresswell
rice soucek lanzini
bowen antonio fornals

subs fabianski fredericks masuaka diop noble vlasic benrahma okoflex chesters

I wonder if yarmolenko will rejoin the squad soon ?

With Bowen in the team I think we get at least a draw last night. As it was I think 1-0 was a decent result.

However, get that ****hole rocking please.

Really disappointed with last night, I think we shot ourselves in the foot (again) with a lack of composure in the final third.

However, this tie is still alive. I wouldn’t have been looking forward to going to the game next week if it was a dead rubber. We are in with a chance still!

We matched them for the first half and for the latter stages of the second. But early on in the second half they were in control of the match and we did well to keep it to one goal.

Will they have many of their injured players back for the second leg?

The club should be handing out flags to fans at the turnstiles, needs to be a carnival atmosphere

Sevilla were very organised and really slowed us down in transition. I think this is where we missed Bowen most, his speed and directness would have really helped us.

Yes to the atmosphere. No to the flags.

They should be getting messages out every day urging people to get into the ground 20/30 minutes before kick off to get the place bouncing. Treat it like that first play off semi final against Ipswich back in 2004.

EDIT: Bloody hell. I'm referencing games from nearly 20 years ago

YorksHammer wrote: Fri Mar 11, 2022 9:43 am Well considering that a) his pass success rate last night was only 66%, and b) his averages for his three seasons with us are 78.8, 79.4, and 77.9, I think it's safe to say that last night was rare for him and he's normally above 75% pass completion.
I was basing my point on the stats I’d seen here.

https://fbref.com/en/players/82927de4/Pablo-Fornals

Admittedly when I’d last checked he was 75% but he’s now upped it to 76% so I’ll hold my hands up there. He’s a 76% player.

Either way, given that he can’t shoot for toffee and barely ever contributes an assist, he seems to be hanging his hat on his passing which is entirely unremarkable. For me he is the clear weak link in our starting eleven and would be the first place I’d be looking to strengthen come through summer.

we need a bit more pace going forwards only Antonio seems fast, without Bowen, give Oxoflex a game v villa rest antonio , if we get the fast paced start with the crowd roaring they will be very beatable in the second leg, 3 5 2 for me antonio and bowen up top, johnson arthur wing backs, cress zouma dawson centre with rice deep and soucek and benrahma supporting the front get the crosses in

They scored a beauty of a goal. Very difficult to execute, both the cross and the shot.
It really shouldn't have been a chance though, we messed it up when defending.

Alsom some very good, quick passing by them. Great to watch.
Keeping the ball low, not lifting it up from the ground.

We need Bowen back, and Rakitic to not recover.

Lovely evening out seeing West Ham last night. Impressive first half, knew they would come out on top in the second - frustrating to concede from a set piece.

It's worth noting that Sevilla have only scored 11 goals in 14 away league games this season. So they are hardly prolific away, but they have also only conceded seven. They will sit back and frustrate, dive around and waste time from the off. We definitely have a strong chance at 1-0 but will need to score in the first half.

We have every chance to still progress. We just need to win the home leg. If we can beat Chelsea and Liverpool we can beat Sevilla.

I expect they'll sit back more which will allow us to get wide and put crosses in, win some corners and get Dawson in the box.

2-1, onto penalties, and after that it's anyone's game.

I think we matched a team destined to play in next year's CL and that he played a full part, despite having a fresh facial injury.

We haven't been playing well against teams who let us have the ball more than them
Counters, crosses and set-pieces. That's us.

Either way, a corner or set-piece or two could make the difference.
As long as we don't conceed.

Ah, sorry, I went off of Whoscored. Have never seen that site before, or at least not that I recall.

Appreciate it's not to the point we were discussing, but interesting to note Fornals' defensive contributions - those stats are almost all in 80th percentile or higher for other players in his position.

Cresswell's defensive stats (vs other full backs) are alarming to say the least!
