UEL16: Sevilla 1-0 West Ham Utd (10/3/22)
Europa League, round of 16, a 2 legged affair with the famous West Ham United travelling to Seville on Thursday evening.
It's an early KO so make your excuses and get out of the office or off the site early, for what is surely our biggest game since the F.A. Cup final under Pards.
Realistically this is our last chance of Silverware this season, albeit first we have to win against a crack Spanish outfit currently riding high in La Liga.
Thousands with and without tickets will make the trip, let's hope Rice and Bowen both recover and do likewise.

A draw here would be A good result, a win sublime. They’re near the top of la liga for a reason and they won’t be a walk over. For some reason I think benrahma may thrive against these, no doubting there’s less physicality in Spain. Hopefully Antonio can bully their cbs and fornals knows this league so hopefully can give some valuable pointers

irritatingly savvy team. infact probably the best team left in the competition who know how to make a game difficult.
the first leg being away is a massive advantage though, the onus will be on them to get a leg up for the trip to london (especially now away goals don't count for anything) and that suits us perfectly.

With Bowen out our only obvious RW option is Yarmolenko. That could actually work in our favour as he does tend to perform better on the big stage, like in the Euros. Let's hope he's up for it and also hope we don't park the bus. However, where is the pace going to come from? We don't have a great deal of it. Chesters is rapid but probably not ready for the biggest match of ours for some time.
Now just imagine if Bowen is out for a few matches and Antonio picks up a hammy again

I think we have to return home with no more than a one goal deficit.
Will Moyes go anywhere near bus parkidge in Sevilla and would you blame him?

I sincerely hope you all have a brilliant time.
I expect something else, in terms of the actual match, but not because of any sense of weakness in us, or any individual player, but moreso because this lot wrote the book on how to win this competition.

I can see this game being like the Liverpool one yesterday. If we can match that performance we might come away with something here. Bowen missing is a huge blow though.

Time to become hero's for our team.
Assuming bowen is out and rice is ok
Areola
Johnson Dawson zouma Cresswell
Rice soucek lanzini
Vlasic Antonio fornals
Subs fabianski diop alese fredericks noble okoflex Chesters benrahma yarmolenko
No point kral being there.
1- 1 to set up the second leg !

Sevilla's last defeat was in a CL group match.
If I am reading (scanning) it correctly, their list of home league games doesn't include any defeats.
They have La Liga's best defence

This game should suit Fornals, Lanzini and Benrahma. If we can play like we did against Wolves and Liverpool and take our chances, we are perfectly capable of coming away with a 2 goal lead.
Fornals and Antonio to score for us.

... but having said that, their league is not as competitive as the The Premier League. In fact, it has a lot of crap teams in itprophet:marginal wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 8:31 am Sevilla's last defeat was in a CL group match.

Maybe, but I doubt that the teams in their bottom three are particularly worse than those in ours.Puff Daddy wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 8:49 am ... but having said that, their league is not as competitive as the The Premier League. In fact, it has a lot of crap teams in it

After yesterdays performance I’m much more confident about this game than I was. Keep this game close and come back to London with the tie winnable at home. That’s all we need.

I am too, as it happens; this season we've raised our game against the very best.EastleighHammer16 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 9:17 am After yesterdays performance I’m much more confident about this game than I was.
Sevilla deserve respect, but Rice sat out yesterday so he can concentrate on this one; am fairly sure of that.
He, Soucek, Fornals, Johnson, Zouma, Dawson will not stop running for the cause.
I cannot wait for it.

Love the thread title.
Who'd have thought we'd have this juicy meal on our plates when all seemed so sparse just a couple of years ago.
I've no idea how it will play out, I have no interest in football outside of West Ham United and only know of Sevillas success through reading the forum, but either way, I think we can rely on the team to give everything and a bit more for the cause.
