140-0 off 20 overs … is this a T20 game rather than a test match!! England motoring at a pace!!
Great to hear the dulcet tones of Lord David of Gowershire in the commentary box too. Missed him over the last few years!

Wow. It might be a road, but that is some start. One day rate of scoring.

Re: England cricket 2022
Even the running between the wickets is in one day mode here. Shots were you'd usually just milk the single off a spinner in a test match and they're sprinting back for 2.
200 in boundaries for England. On day one. In 57 overs. Madness.

Just seen the score for this whilst on a break at work. What the hell is happening.

Re: England cricket 2022
As someone who still clings onto doubts about Bazball, I'm not sure what to make if this. Obviously in the context of the game its making us crush it, but how much of this is aided by poor bowling on a road?
We've barely left a ball. I just can't believe this will work against the Oz seam attack.
Still, might as well enjoy it while its there.

Wonder how many times Root has told the changing room that the pitch is livelier than it looks since he got out?

Re: England cricket 2022
It will be interesting to see it against the Aussie seamers.
In some way it would be good to see how other sides combat Bazball … if not, and we beat sides with relative ease, test cricket as a whole will suffer. However, I am not sure it will be sustainable.

Re: England cricket 2022
But what happens against the Ozzies isn't relevant is it? They've gone out today to put Pakistan in the ground because its flat as a pancake. I would say 95% of the boundaries (at least) have come from good shots rather than T20-esque slogging.Bend it like Repka wrote: ↑Thu Dec 01, 2022 10:54 am As someone who still clings onto doubts about Bazball, I'm not sure what to make if this. The point of "Bazball" is to be aggressive and play shots when you can - at the moment there's simply more opportunities. Against Australia it'll be less opportunities but I expect the aim will be to put pressure on the bowlers rather than hitting 24 off an over!
I also don't see Test cricket suffering because we play positive, exciting to watch cricket and are successful.
I think only in England could you be 502-4 at the end of Day 1 and worrying about playing like this against another team.
