We've had some shambolic days in the last 18 months...this is down there as one of the worst.

Poor bowling and woeful batting with all of the wickets down to silly mistakes.

Hopefully the tail will wag again.

It's happened so many times now it's laughable. There can be no excuses, we are brittle and feeble. As soon as a wicket goes we crumble, the women are the same so it must be something in our coaching that is not making batters tough enough.

Piss poor. Root 1 win in 18 now?

I think we just need to accept that the cupboard is bare when it comes to finding red ball quality players.

Tbf, we've had a decent run since the mid 00's.

We're now left with Root, Stokes and on occasions Bairstow. The rest are just fodder that wouldn't get anywhere near an Australian, Indian, or even NZ team.

Massive overhaul required from top to bottom.

Credit to the Windies though. Some players in their side that refuse to give their wicket away.

Shocking.

English cricket is run by a bunch of chinless wonders and now the side is made up with loads of them as well.

Credit to Mahmood and Leach this test. I suppose we'll get Collingwood and Tresco blowing smoke up the players arses rather than giving the harsh truths that we were skittled out by a medium pacer.

Well I’m sure crowds will be up for the Hundred so all is good in the world. We deserve this, we’ve sold our soul to the short game, reap what you sow.

I think the problem is much deeper than that. India is obsessed with the IPL but can still play test cricket.

I can only go by what I've seen at junior level in my county, but there is no reward for being good at defending. From what I've seen myself and heard on the radio in interviews too much emphasis is put on scoring quickly at as fundamental part of training for developing cricketers.

If you look at players Crawley, Pope and Lawrence they are unable to shut down and block for 10 overs. It is not in their dna. As such they will never have the capability to succeed in test cricket consistently. They will get the odd score, but time and again they will get out attacking when they should be defending.

In my opinion we are coaching wrong at a fundamental level.

Bowling to a certain extent we have been unlucky with pace. A line up of Wood, Stone and Archer in the WI would have been useful.

Spinners are down to the county system and pitches.

Captaincy is down to their being no other options.
