Sensational
Was worried we’d declared too early but it all worked out nicely in the end 😁
Bold captaincy and a real marker laid down

Unbelievable. Well played Ben Stokes, foresight no one else had.

Brilliant captaincy.

Killing off Test Cricket this is :D

What a bowling performance - probably the best non-5er bowling ever by Robinson

I can only doff my cap. I thought we'd declared 30 runs and minutes too early, I viewed it as reckless and risking being 1 down in a 3 match series too much.

I was wrong. Fair play, incredible captaincy and approach got the reward it deserved

How the hell has that track produced one of the most enjoyable test matches in many a year? :crylol:

Match figures of 5-88 for Anderson on a complete road are frankly ridiculous.

This England team has a massive pair of nuts to keep going out and playing like that and winning. It seems they're rewriting the way cricket is played!

Good on them.

How does Anderson do it? 40 years old and still doing it time and time again?

I know Murali and Warne will end up with more wickets (although Warne is still catchable) but for me Anderson is the greatest test bowler of all time...and this is from someone who loved Warnie.

To get this many wickets as a seamer and still be going on in his forties is just an incredible achievement. You wonder how many he could have got if they hadn't made him faff about with his bowling action...

Excellent captaining by Stokes and well done too to Pakistan for making a game of it … an exciting one at that.

Also, the reason that Test cricket is the best form of the game.

I took this exact picture on my tv and sent to a few mates who were unfortunate to be at work and missed it - incredible!

It’s a generational shift for sure and I feel privileged to be following the sport during this time. I think over the last few years cricket has gradually taken over football for me and everything about this England squad (white and red ball) justifies it.

McCullum was a fantastic cricketer and is an even better thinker of the game. Take nothing away from Collingwood who seems to be the perfect balancing act.

I agree with everyone concerning the bowling attack over the last few days and the acid test is how we bounce back after getting thumped, because it’s going to happen.

There isn’t a better cricketer in the world right now than Ben Stokes and Jimmy is up there with the Redgrave’s, Hamilton’s and Hoy’s of this world in my eyes.

I have some hope that the current successes of the national team helps push through Key’s plans for reform. My fear is that the present success will plaster over the fundamental changes needed to guarantee long-term gains to the sport.

Good post PF - one of the things I am most looking for is how we do bounce back when things go awry, as that will be the biggest test.

I thought we'd already been thumped by South Africa by an innings;

Yes, I meant a series thumping - a proper “we see you, now take that!”

Just hope it isn’t next summer!!!

Was up early to watch and Duckett was refreshingly good at the crease.

Abrar’s had a great start on debut but to loose Root again so early is concerning, it was a poor shot off the back foot, and he’s arguably our best player of spin. Certainly the most experienced.

The pitch is turning already. I’d be surprised if there are big scores here (famous last words!) but the run-rate is again very exciting.

Ollie Pope again looking impressive.

(edit) well, he was until that stupid shot!

Five down now. I know this approach is supposed to be the new way but it all feels a bit silly this morning on the pitch. We’ll see however.
