Brentford 2-0 West Ham Utd (10/4/22)

Post by paulhs1 »

10th April 2022

Kick off 14.00

Could really do with another 3 points from this. Likely that we need to match their 5 at the back system and rotate a bit.

..................Fabianski...................
Dawson.........Diop.............Cresswell
Coufal....................................Fornals
....................Lanzini...................
Soucek..............................Rice
Vlasic....................Bowen

I like the look of that although I'd start Vlasic with Benny & bring Bowen on 2nd half.

Unless Zouma is dead or suspended, I don't see any scenario, formation or anything else that would have Diop start ahead of him.

I think this game could be tough, as Brentford seem to create a good atmosphere at home, whilst Eriksen has given them a lift and Toney is playing well.

I’d go:

———————-Fab
Coufal—Dawson—Zouma—Creswell
——————Rice——-Soucek
—Vlasic———Lanzini——-Benny
——————-—-Bowen

Top 4 is less likely than winning the Europa so I'd like us to rest Rice, Soucek, Zouma, Antonio, Fornals, Dawson and Bowen for the Lyon match.

Our best players need a rest , they aren't machines.

Top 6 has to be the aim plus progressing in the Europa. If we throw points away and get knocked out by Lyon/Barca we end up with no European football next year

I expect - not hope for - an away win here.

This lot had their day in the sun at Stamford Bridge.

Manu or Vlasic to net.

Why are people dropping Zouma and Benny from their squads?

This has a classic match thread feel about it already.

Hope you’re right proph
Will be a tough game after last night’s efforts especially with the second half down to ten players.
I don’t expect too many changes, it’s not Moyes Modus Operandi. He will pick his strongest side and we will continue to run on adrenaline.
Three points will be most welcome, we don’t want them doing the double on us do we.

Benny will play against his old team as he wont start v Lyon as Lanzini is back. Lanzini will play in this one too I think.

probably rest Antonio and Fornals but Bowen will play to get a bit more fitness.

Cresswell starts at left back with Coufal on the right. Might even see Diop for Dawson

What about a starting berth for Mark Noble ? If not, think he'll get some minutes in this one to keep somebody else fresh for next Thursday

Coufal needs to get some minutes. He should certainly be looked at for this one. A fresh Lanzini/Vlasic wouldn't be the worst thing either and Fabianski comes back in. We need to aim to win this game and that means keep the main part of our side. Last night shows how hard Europe is. Lyon putting in a classic type of experienced European performance and a referee that allows it. No need to put all our eggs in any basket. 6th is still a big possibility.

More than half the team will have played no more than 45 minutes yesterday. I'd probably get Bowen and Antonio to share 90.

I think we're really beginning to feel the absence of a 3rd CM who can be regularly rotated in. The form of our first choice pair is not what it always has been. Rice looks like he needs some time out.

Call it European experience, game management, whatever.

We got done by cheating last night.

Much like we got done when we played Brentford.

We need to figure out how to deal with the cheats who waste time by feigning injury, go down at the slightest touch and general snideness.

Brentford is a good warm up for Lyon as it goes.

I'd take a draw if Wolves lose tonight.

Agree a draw is a good result in the busy circumstances.
Would look to bring on Soucek, Antonio and Fornals for the last 30. Ideally for Bowen, Rice and Noble but it can't really be planned.

Save Johnson for Lyon. Fredericks if Coufal not ready.

Coufal--Diop--Zouma--Cress
---Noble--Rice--Lanzini
Vlasic----Bowen--Benrahma
