Re: ⚽ Brentford V West Ham United: match thread
There’s such polar opposites all the time with opinions. The reality is that we are having a great season and have massively kicked on under Moyes BUT between him and the board we have left ourselves short squad wise, I think that is fairly obvious no?

SO LET’S ****ing STAY AT THAT LEVEL THENBubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:08 am It's April and we're 6th and still in the Europa League.
We lost a game. We'll still qualify for Europe. Rice might still leave, though I doubt it.
This season is so far from average, and the fact that a bad performance after 90 minutes in a European QUARTER FINAL!!! Is apparently our season falling apart and Antonio being a useless, arrogant, doesn't care about West Ham dud is insanity.

You see a lot on Facebook and Twitter that we're playing 'a right back' upfront.Estuary wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:12 am Totally correct. This thing that because he once played as a wide attacking player, or a wing back that he isn't a "proper striker" is just baffling. Sir Geoff Hurst played left half (left midfield), should we have bought a player to play up front with Budgie and moved Geoff back to left half? Bobby Moore was a left half also, should we have bought another centre half to play alongside Ken Brown and moved Bob back into the midfield?
Of course not, both were better at their new roles than their old ones, and so is Antonio, expect some cannot, or more probably will not see that and keep trotting out utter bilge about "not a real striker".
We could do with another player experienced player in that role as an understudy.

Well yes and no. We actually have a decent size squad, perfect in fact, it's just the lack of quality of those squad players which is something that can definitely be addressed in a couple of months when the window opens.

Re: ⚽ Brentford V West Ham United: match thread
Sure, we all will. However, our optimism and expectation is built upon hope rather than factual quality, ability and experience.
That 'hope' has been created by Moyes and his coaching staff actually delivering the evidence that their long term plan can be achieved. But its a long term plan, not a two year one.
At the moment we are the noisy neighbours to the Sky 6 who, lets be honest here, have much better players and squads than ours and the wealth and experience to go with it. With relative success (which we have had) comes more games that puts more pressure on a small squad (tiredness, injuries etc.) that in turn seriously effects consistency of performance.
But, I can hear many shouting, that's why we should have invested more in the summer/winter windows. Perhaps, but realistically who of the quality Moyes wants was available and able/wanted to come. The answer is, obviously no-one, otherwise they would be here. The majority of new signings for every club end in failure. For every Bowen we have a Anderson, for every Soucek we have a Kral or Haller or even Diop!
As I have said previously, I will judge Moyes reign over 5 years (and he should given that long) where we should be consistently top 8 and pushing onto to top 5 or 4 and making qtr finals to finals of cups then that would be success in my eyes. Anything else (without huge wealth injection) is frankly Walter Mitty territory.

Is it OK to tolerate passengers in the team? Only we had far too many and I didn't spot a single one in Man City's or Liverpools teams yesterday

The perfect summary by Shearer. If Moyes learns anything from this, it is that he will have to mix up the starting 11 next week against Burnley to give us the best possible chance of winning that match.

100s of millions of pounds in transfer fees will do that.Puff Daddy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:36 am Is it OK to tolerate passengers in the team? Only we had far too many and I didn't spot a single one in Man City's or Liverpools teams yesterday

We made two changes after the first Sevilla leg and still beat Villa. We then made one change from that team and best Sevilla in the second leg.
Shearer wasn't saying we had to mix up our starting 11 then.

Well no not really, many posters on here could foresee what was going to transpire yesterday.
The first leg in Sevilla was just 90 minutes with 11 men.Bubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:42 am We made two changes after the first Sevilla leg and still beat Villa.
We had a 4 day rest just as Sevilla did.Bubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:42 am We then made one change from that team and best Sevilla in the second leg.
He said the result was poor because we keep playing the same 12-13 playersBubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:42 am Shearer wasn't saying we had to mix up our starting 11 then.

The reality is that one choice being proven wrong does not make the choice not taken necessarily correct.Bubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:42 am It'd all hindsight though right?

We could have rotated 3 or 4 players and lost 4 nil to an even bigger inquisition.
But I wouldn't say its hindsight though as it was discussed at length before should we or shouldn't we freshen up the team. There were also 2 different perspectives as to why we should we rotate. Some to be fresher for Lyon game. Some to be fresher for Brentford.

I kinda understand what you are saying, but that does not excuse a total lack of application and that because our squad was assembled on a budget, this is OKBubbles Fortuna wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 10:40 am 100s of millions of pounds in transfer fees will do that.

Premier League Records
Matches 8
Wins 1
Draws 2
Losses 5
Goals For 4
Goals Against 10
The record questions itself in fairness.

How about David Moyes then? "We had mitigating circumstances, as we had a tough game on Thursday as well as another in midweek"
