Well whatever it was, it made great viewing. I opened up a pack of union flags ready for the jubilee and waved it every time we got 12 points much to the amusement of my family.

I didn't even have any intention of watching it but was outvoted.

I only saw the Armenian entry , Rosa Linn ' Snap ' and thought it a really good song .

Listening to the BBC News earlier on they were suggesting that next year's Eurovision could be held in Mariupol , hmmm , good luck with that .

Be good to see Kiev hold it though .

I'll never cease to be amazed at people's reasoning for voting/not voting a certain way boss. The German effort was certainly worthy of more points than it go, and it was not so much worse than the Ukrainian effort that it deserved that yawning chasm of a gap from top to bottom.

It was one of the better songs sendo wasn't it, but it wasn't a Eurovision winner. And that's the magic formula that the UK managed to re-discover last night.

As for those who don't think anyone in the UK watches this any more...

So woke up Sunday morning to lots of smiles on the TV about us coming 2nd!

Not a fan of this and I always was led to believe it's political voting and we will never do anything again?!?! Is it political or did we actually have a good song for a change?

Bit of both really, but IMO the whole Ukraine thing has led to a bit more apathy toward political lines with the voting.

Our entry was miles better than what we have produced over the last decade or so. The judges put us first, then the public vote obviously swung almost in its entirety to Ukraine.

I personally felt that although our entry was relatively brilliant for what we usually go with, it was around the 5/6th best.

Spain, Armenia, Sweden were better IMO, but it is what it is.

I was really looking forward to the Rasmus for Finland, but that felt a bit of a let down. 10-15 years ago I reckon it would have done well, but it just felt overdone and dated.

I got into Eurovision back when Lordi won it (I think I was about 12), and loved it ever since for some reason. I'm not that into music in general, so a strange guilty pleasure really.

And i agree regarding the German entry. A bit 'generic' similar to the Belgian entry, but definitely deserved a load more points, at least within the top 12-15.

Another post related to the nature of voting... without specific data from previous years it's hard to put into context but interesting, nonetheless.

This is the PUBLIC vote, not that of the national juries.

I can give you a rough explanation, if you really want a serious answer. But I prefer the ones that were given so far.

I've just found out our entrant comes from my former home town of Maldon. This overcomes my initial disappointment that it was Sam Ryder, not Shaun Ryder. I almost wish I'd watched it now.

It is hard to be sure of anything as I have no idea what is the sociology of Eurovision televoters in these countries. But the general feeling towards the UK is not too good. For some reasons, it goes with the reaction against globalisation, the loss of cultural independence. I am not sure I can express it correctly, but the point is that for many people there, it is simply not really conceivable to have the back of the Brits. Just because. Don't worry, France doesn't get a much better treatment.

Also, it is to be noted that folk music, in all kind of variations, from the purest form to the cheapest electronic one, is still very popular in these countries. And people who listen to it are quite hermetic to Brit pop. I wouldn't be surprised the televoters are mostly to be found in this audience.

And for Serbia, Montenegro and North Macedonia, there is a severe resentment for the NATO bombings, especially the 1999 ones. The UK stands for the closest thing to the US in people's minds.

This is how I would account for it. But it's just based on what I have seen and heard from the people I talked to there.

By the way, the professional jury from Croatia giving 12 points to Serbia was a huge thing. But Konstrakta became a real phenomenon in all former Yugoslavia.

Bo Jo already saying Ukraine should be allowed to host Eurovision. In other words, we don’t want to pay for it.
