A trophy is a trophy if it is on a Thursday or any other day of the week

Because we have the city game to rearrange which is a pain we will be playing two games every week bar one mid week we have off before the end of the season

Yer the players may get tired but I for on am excited, would you prefer a game a week in mid table obscurity and out of all cups?

Yes the only worry is the league but that is why the next 3 games are key, two wins and we will push ourselves right up the table and will not have to worry so much
First free slot for the Man City game is the week of the first leg of the semis. If either team progress then I think you're looking at a slot 2 weeks before the end of the season.

The premier league will be prioritised by Moyes. But we have a strong enough squad that the players that don’t play in the league will be more than a match for Gent. I would imagine the likes Zouma, Aguerd, Rice and Bowen will likely play the majority of games and the rest will probably get changed around a bit.

Good point. Should have said Brentford. Not quite as critical as the Bournemouth game in terms of the impact of dropping points to the opposition, but still one we will probably need to win, unless we've amassed some serious points beforehand.

It's a tricky one. Mid-table obscurity in no cups does not appeal. Having said that, negotiating a weekend/midweek Championship season alongside Thursday Europa League fixtures would surely only end in disaster, as fun as it would be.

I wonder if Nice will feel any pressure for being the last French side in any of the cups. Apparently France’s coefficient will take a big hit if they don’t get through.

I'm not sure it will be. He'll want a trophy.

Who was the last British manager to win a European trophy? Ferguson?

I would imagine that historically Moyes has among the best win percentage records in Europe for any British managers. 17-5-2 in the last 2 seasons.

The fact that Dutch clubs are doing well this season is a problem for France. If Nice don't make it to the next round and at least one of the Dutch club does, there would the be a strong possibility that they overtake us. Portugal aren't far away either.

But for Nice, there will be no pressure. Going that far is already a lot for them. The main issue, imo, is that they are still a team made of young players (bar Schmeichel and Dante). European battles are not only about the quality of football. Basel is typically the kind of draw French media would consider easy, despite our global lack of results. It would be typical that Nice lose.

Indeed it is. Gent are still referred to as La Gantoise in ****ing parts of Belgium.
Point of order here. How did my original post which stated ' French-speaking ' become ****ing parts of Belgium ?

Are they a good side?

Based on what I've seen they seem pretty good, the best in this competition along with West Ham right now I'd have thought.

Funnily enough I think our ‘second team’ is way more suited to European football than our premier league first 11.
