Not Conference League, but Europa League related. The absolute entitlement, I hope every team they play next season uses this as part of their pre match teamtalk.

Europa League final tonight. Obviously not as massive as next weeks final.

Jose Mourinhos Roma looking to win back to back UECL and UEL trophies, Sevilla looking to win this cup for the 7th time, having dispatched Man U and Juve along the way.

Would it not have made sense to start with our final, then the Europa, and then the Champions League?

Puts our win last year into context doesn’t it? Remarkable we won that.

I reckon they gave a quick, "praise da lord" when they realised the claret and blue kryptonite weren't in it this year.

Yes, Sevilla have an unbelievable pedigree in this competition, us getting to the semi last year putting them out along the way and a final this year is not an achievement to be sniffed at.

such a shame we are not playing in a decent stadium like last nights match. superb atmosphere and feelings of a big event rather than our tiny stadium. there will be more fans outside than in the stadium !

good to hear them mention WHU beating sevilla last season. we really should have won the EL . maybe then rice would have stayed

Teams in the ECL for next season:

Conference League Play-off round
England: Aston Villa
Spain: Osasuna
Italy: Juventus
Germany: Eintracht Frankfurt
France: Lille
Third qualifying round
Portugal: Arouca
The Netherlands: AZ Alkmaar
Austria: Rapid Wien
Scotland: Heart of Midlothian
Serbia: Partizan
Ukraine: Dynamo Kyiv
Norway: Brann
Denmark: Nordsjælland
Croatia: Hajduk Split

Unless good teams drop into it from the Europa League it’s essentially 3 teams there who will be competing for our trophy.

Villa will really fancy their chances under a serial European winner like Emery.

I wonder what the odds are for us and Frankfurt to do a swap after the last 2 seasons? I.e. they win the Conference and we win the Europa.

There’s a lot of comments towards the start of the thread that hasn’t aged well at all.

But then I said Moyes shouldn’t have been appointed 2nd time, quite funny reading them all back!

Apart from Spain, there are tougher competitors in it than this year.

Juventus is better than Fiorentina
Lille or better than Nice
Frankfurt better than Koln

And a big outsider for me: Club Bruges from Belgium. They massively underperformed this year in the league, but managed to beat Atletico Madrid, Porto AND Leverkusen in this years Champions League with this current bunch of players.

Juventus, Villa, Lille, Eintracht Frankfurt look the probable last 4 from the original entrants , but the dropdowns from the Europa will probably throw another few in. Emery has a fantastic CV in this kind of competition.

By the time they get to the last 8/last 4, many of the ties will look like standard Europa League knockout games, and will be stronger than a fair few CL group games. Would anyone be greatly surprised to see Juventus v Frankfurt as a last 16/last 8 game in the CL in another season?

It's a good tournament and clubs from countries like Belgium, Switzerland etc have a punchers' chance.

The much maligned conference league (in some quarters anyway) has had a real boost with us winning it and following on from the success of Roma last year.

Both clubs took to it and the stadium scenes and the following parades for both clubs was a shot in the arm to Uefa.

Any English team qualifying will want to emulate us without shadow of a doubt. Its brought respectability and a grandness to the third tier European competition.

Fans of Villa or Brighton will think its achievable and will want their day in the sun.

In some ways I wish we were defending it. But wouldn't a Europa or FA Cup win go well next season. I'll take another 14th finish for that.

I tried looking through the beginning of this thread to see what people thought of the Conference. Was enjoying it until I got to this post.

I really know nothing about football.
