I like the way he kicks through the ball when he passes. Reminds me of Italian defenders playing the ball with confidence instead of hoofing. First impression very good, especially after 3 months out

Got up in the middle of the night to watch this, not only in the hope we could seal the group win, but also partly to see how he performed.
I appreciate they are not Premier League opposition, but he plays with an air of authority, calmness and appearance of having extra time on the ball in the same way that Rice does. When Kehrer replaced him, the first thing he did was to mis-place a pass straight out of play. I didn’t have the feeling or worry that this would/could happen when the Moroccan Maldini (copyright S-H) was marshalling our defence.
I very much look forward to seeing him against the best teams that we face, but, on tonight’s showing, I have the feeling we have signed a real gem of a centre back. Fingers crossed he stays injury free and that I’m not wildly off the mark.

I still don’t know what he’s likely defensively as he didn’t really have to do too much dirty work last night. But he should get at least 2 more starts before the World Cup in Bucharest and at home to Blackburn to test himself.

Obviously he would have played a few full matches in training these last couple of weeks & today wasn't overly taxing. Moyes has said there's no way he plays a part on Sunday but do you reckon he gets a place on the bench?

He’s certainly very vocal, noticed in the Reading friendly he was organising things from the first minute, which is especially useful with Zouma who plays better with a “talker” next to him as we saw early last year with Oggy.
As for the skipper role if Rice departs I suggest both Aguerd and Kehrer are likely candidates at this stage, but I’m still hoping we end the season strongly enough for Declan to stay on, and we bring in another couple of top quality players to give him confidence Europe is a regular thing at West Ham.

Yes it's frustrating to think about, our first signing this year and one we had chased for a long time. Really hope he can kick on now. Him and zouma should be an absolute force, one of the best CB pairs in the league.
