The KUMB bits 'n' pieces & off-topic thread

Post by -DL- »

In my years on this site, I've frequently seen posters make comments in other threads such as 'this doesn't deserve another thread, but....' or asking off topic questions in other threads that are random musings - so let's have them all in one place!

No specific topic, just bits and pieces that don't really fit in to other threads but not worthy of a thread of its own.

For example - I've seen it mentioned over the years that we may not be announcing a new signing because we're waiting for the kit launch.

Has this ever happened?

Almost every year the possibility of launching the club's new kit alongside a fresh signing is mooted. Frequently in KUMB's transfer thread the suggestion that this may happen may be read, often from posters who have suggested the very same thing in seasons and transfer windows gone by. However to this point, and since the introduction of transfer windows in the early noughties, never have West Ham United FC chosen to launch the club's kit and announce a new player signing simultaneously. It has simply never happened, despite false claims to the contrary and annual suggestions that this might just be the year it could. It hasn't yet and it almost certainly never will - yet come next summer, the same people (and others) will almost certainly be raising the possibility.

tldr; no.

Didn't we announce Haller with the third kit launch?

Cullen - Should never have been sold. £500,000 just wasn't worth it if he was clearly happy to stay and fight for a place. The boy is decent enough for what we want. Missed opportunity.

Yeah, but the move was better for his career. He gets more chance to develop on a competitive environment every week. You see players that hang around bigger teams too long and never come close to maximizing their potential.

As I've said previously, he still would have got ample opportunity to play during the course of a long season, especially for a Club notorious for injuries and ways needing more bodies come the end of the season. He was even picking up International cals regularly whilst with us so that wasn't effected either.

The point still stands, his International aspirations wouldn't be effected had he stayed.

What’s the point though? He played a total of 10 times. Even 10 games a season would not be enough for him. A spell at Anderlecht and then perhaps a stint at Celtic would be a good career for him.

And no one is saying they wouldn't be good career moves for him, I just believe remaining would have also worked out for both him and us. He still would have got around 25 appearances or more over the course of a long season one way or another.

And of course you'd use yet another Scottish example, just can't help yourself.

I was seeing it more from an Irish perspective. I just cannot see him ever getting more than a handful of games a season. Mark didn’t mind as he is an old geezer.

So you're saying because Scotland is a little bit closer to Ireland than London (still have to fly/travel) with all our links that would mean everything to him?

No, I’m saying Celtic has a long and distinguished history for Irish internationals, so it is a good place for them to play. Celtic are massive in Ireland. It’s a place where you play in front of massive crowds and get guaranteed honours.

When can we see you trotting out..?
Cullen a lovely footballer, we should never have sold him for such a pittance but the lad just wants to play & was nearing the end of his contract so good on him...
Coventry an even lovelier little footballer & hope we let Cullen go to give the lad his chance, he does need to bulk up a bit but he's got a great eye for a pass, (almost always forward).
Let me know your preferred number Pete & I'll let Steven Kenny know you're available... :winker:

He could achieve that anywhere. Scotland doesn't do him any more favours had he agreed to play in that country. He could have achieved it even if he was playing in League 1 like Jason Knight will be for instance.

Playing for Celtic you get to win titles and play in the Champions League.
